By Melisse. Victoria Strowbridge, our friend and teacher I wrote a blog entry about in mid December (African Dance Revisited), has for years celebrated the culture of Haitian people through teaching and performing their dances and drumming. She has friends who are closely connected to the country where the tragic earthquake recently happened. Feeling compelled to do something to help the people there she organized a fundraiser, a powerful night of dance classes accompanied by incredible drumming, informative speakers, a silent auction offering fun Sonoma County goodies, and delicious, Haitian style, home cooked food at Santa Rosa’s beautiful and funky Monroe Hall. The invitation read: "A Free evening of music, dance classes, speakers, DJ and open dance floor to benefit Haitian earthquake victims Cuban, Congolese, West African, Brazilian as well as Haitian Dance Classes ... read more

Once again we've succeeded in having a totally awesome day! We started off in the pool swimming laps and enjoying the perfect weather. Not long after, we were joined by a nice guy named Chris. After getting acquainted by being challenged to a swimming race (which I lost) we decided to go for a hike through the mountains. We were attempting to find these rock formations but went the wrong way! It was fun anyway, we enjoyed some new castle, saw some wild life and red wood trees. Then we went for Margaritas and ended up back in the hot tub drinking some wine that we bought from a vineyard yesterday.... read more

Today was amazing! We went to two vineyards for some wine tastings and tours. First was Castello di Amorosa which is a beautiful castle. We had a blast exploring it and met some fun people. Then we went to Del Dotto which was pretty cool. We ate massive amounts of cheese, it was rediculous! The drive through the mountains was spectacular! At some point we came upon a petrified forest! Cool shit! And to top the night off we went to our hot tub with a bottle of Cabernet Blanco that we got from Del Dotto and met some very nice locals that were all about our age. We have apparently acquired another skydiver!!! Yay! And a yoga buddy. This trip has been so fun and it's only getting better!... read more

What will time have on special over the next 5 weeks? The adventure is happening; it is finally coming to fruition. The emotions are bouncing from the extremely thrilled side to the worry and the horrible ‘what-if’ scenarios. Ultimately it is an adventure and an experience that has been a long time coming. Throughout college I knew all I wanted to do was travel and see the world. Originally, Europe was beeping on my radar but, as time has elapsed, South America is the calling. Maybe it is the history and the historic culture it poses. This is enough for the first blog, lets wait in anticipation for the next one for it will take place somewhere far away from California and with a little luck even contain pictures!!! ... read more

Now that we have posted our pictures, let's give you some details to go with them! We spent the day touring around the Los Angeles area on Monday. We began by driving through the curves of Beverly Hills on Sunset Boulevard to try and get a glimpse of some outrageous properties; however, privacy is critical in these parts and they have large stone walls and shrubbery to ensure it! Then, after Sunset ended, we turned on Pacific Coast Highway (The PCH if you're local!) and continued south a short way to the famous Santa Monica Pier. With some inclement weather looming overhead, much of the beach and Pier operations were shutdown; it was actually refreshing to see things in this way though. So often the hotspots and tourist destinations are swarming with visitors, so it was ... read more

So... It is Ten thirty almost. My brother is watching numbers on T.V. Soon television will be dubbed in German, and I will have been awake for 23 hours straight. Coffee!!! Dustin (my wonderful man) has gotten me hooked on coffee, rather I have been spoiled by wonderful and perfectly french brewed petes coffee... Le sigh. That is the least of my worries.. Not that I have many right now anyways. Well I still have a few little things to pack. In that case, I am going to leave you with that small little blurb. Till next time!! -Nichole... read more

African Wild Life Safari in California! Safari West is a hidden jewel of North California. Well, it’s not exactly a hidden jewel, as some of the time slots we wanted were already sold out. However, I had not heard about this place from people around me. When I talked to some of my colleagues at work, none of them knew about it! Safari West is a privately owned wild life habitat and a zoo spread over 400 acre of area near Santa Rosa in Sonoma county. Safari West is home to over 400 mammals and birds including some endangered species. This time Nirav, Mohnish, and Prutha joined us for the safari trip. It is a 2 hours drive from San Jose. We had a reservation for 1 pm; however, after the lunch at Giovanni’s pizzeria in ... read more
