The City By The Bay

My youngest daughter, Kelci, flew out here yesterday. She is planning on living in Los Angeles. We will be heading that way on Monday, August 14th. Kelci's plan is to get a job, get a place and start make up school in January. Today we just had fun in San Francisco. We started with a tour of the Scharffen Berger Chocolate Factory in Berkeley. We were able to taste many varieties of dark chocolate and take a walk through the factory. We then headed to The City to have lunch at Juicy Lucy's in North Beach. It's an organic juice bar and cafe. I had carrots and hummus and Kelci had a tofu bagel sandwich. We also played some kind of "move the stones around a dish" game that I have never played before. Kelci was a pro and kicked my butt. She said that she and Josh (a friend since childhood) used to play all the time. We each bought a 3 day pass for the Muni (buses and cable cars) and managed to ride without showing our pass, so now we still have 3 days left on it. I parked at Fort Mason (free parking for four hours) and

...at Askew, right next to IKEA in Berkeley, after Kelci's arrival
between the free parking and free riding we made out pretty well. We walked around Chinatown and bought a green tea slushy with pearls and coveted all the little Asian children. When I told Kelci that my friend wanted to adopt a little Asian boy, Kelci was dissapointed that she didn't want a girl. Kelci thinks that girls would be much more fun to dress (pink & Asian...hello Kitty??). After driving out of The City, across the Golden Gate bridge, we decided to head up to the Marin Headlands to see Point Bonita Lighthouse. The foot trail to the lighthouse is a very scenic 1/2 mile. Unfortunately, the lighthouse was closed, but we did take the scenic road back that had great views of the bridge. Then it was back to Shay's after a short stop at my favorite health/gourmet food store, The Nugget.

Kelci didn't wear the required "closed toed" shoes (she lives in flip flops) to the chocolate factory tour, so these are the ones they loan out.
