There are 30 MLB teams, each of them having their own ballpark. Each ballpark is unique in its own way and holds a special place in its fans' hearts. However,
according to USA Today, none are better than your San Diego Padres' own Petco Park.
A long time and dear friend attended the dedication of the stadium (Petco), and got to meet Teddy Ballgame himself, Ted Williams, a San Diego native. The park was built for about $450 million and opened in 2004.
USA Today named Petco Park as the best MLB ballpark for the second season in a row. This is the fourth time USA Today named Petco Park the best ballpark in the league in the span of seven years. The Padres' division rival Colorado Rockies ballpark, Coors Field, came in second. Hard to believe!
I have always maintained that Petco is better than ATT Park (now called Oracle) in San Francisco, even though I am a Giants fan. For this reason, I generally fly down to San Diego once each summer for the three-game series with the Padres and Giants. The only thing they (Petco) are missing is a view of the water.
From My Money Chronicles: Petco Park is like
a postcard come to life. Situated in the lively hub of downtown San Diego, it promises a baseball match and a visual extravaganza. The architectural elegance of the stadium itself, coupled with the shimmering city skyline, makes for a stunning spectacle. Being at Petco Park means feeling the game's pulse at every turn. The stadium's layout ensures a close-to-the-action experience for all spectators. Moreover, a wide array of gourmet food and drink options adds to the sensory delight of visiting Petco Park, a comprehensive cultural experience. (I do not know how reliable this web site might be, since they said Oracle Park in SF has a retractable roof!!!)
On July 13, 2013, our Giants Tim Lincecum pitched the park's first no hitter, a 9-0 victory over the Padres.
Redbooks says: Petco Park is as entertaining as the ballgame itself. Beautiful San Diego weather means that fans arrive hours early to enjoy food and drinks on sprawling green lawns before finding their feats. Food and drink options abound, and on Fridays the Padres celebrate Beerfest, a pregame happy hour with live music and $5 beers. For one, the weather is always better here, the concourses are bigger and less crowded, the
food choices offer more variety, and the fans are friendly, even to the orange and black enemy. Ticket prices are more reasonable, as well as the food and beer.
Some famous musicians have played concerts here, including the Stones, Madonna, Paul McCartney, Billy Joel, Metallica, the Eagles, the Beach Boys, Elton John, and Taylor Swift!
And the Padres are now one of the top teams (maybe not this year) in baseball, with Tatis, Manny, and Juan!!! But my Giants are in the hunt for the wild card playoffs (falling, fading very fast), and the Padres are not. The Atlanta Braves look like the best team, but I like anyone but the hated Dodgers.
I love my visits to San Diego, Petco Park, and the greater downtown area each year. I have most of my meals down here, and I walk to and from the game each day, unless I ride a bicycle. Go Giants!!
