Mission San Luis Rey De Franca
I really is beatiful. I love the spanish influence. I think this is one of the things I love about California is the intregation of the two cultures that live side by side, true not without problems. Welcome to another blog from your Wandering Gal, I am so looking forward to sharing my next adventure with anyone that is interested enough to read it! You will never guess where I am if you knew me at all. Up to this point I have tried to have to use a passport on any trip and the further the better. But you know what they say about exploring your own backyard first. So I have embarked on a journey to a less exotic place but a warm region, english is the language here but there is lots of diversity of culture everywhere, enough with the suspence I am in southern California my homesbase will be Oceanside, I must confess I am a Californis Native so it shouldn't be to different, wrong I am from Northern California and Southern California and Northern California are like two different states really. So here I land at the Motel ---- but we will get to that later. After 20 hours of driving (side detour Fremont two nights) I have arrived only to find after San Diego's last week of weather with a small heat wave now to a windy chilly welcome. So although I
Garden Arch
This is like a frame into the Missions Retreat Gardens and also the first Pepper tree brought to America is planted here. The gardens were beautiful butmy pictures didn't do it justice. may not be getting the warm tropic breezes I so long, for I can say I am not needing an umbrella! Not that I would use one being the Oregonian I am. LOL, I do however plan to make the most of it and if I have to shiver a bit to bring the highlights of Oceanside be it tame, wierd or just a little unusual just an overall taste of the North County (being North of San Diego). And though this wouldn't be my usual type of destination I plan on making the most of this time here and try some new adventures, some typical, some more adventurous and maybe a few totally unexpected activities thrown in!
Been doing some exploring and besides loads of Mexican Restaurants and Liquor stores it could be a challenge. No really although it is true thay have lots of those thay also have many other places to see. Yesterday I went and picked up a sandwich from one of my favorite California Eatery Togo's. If your not from California this was the place to get a sub before Subway and for my money much better. After getting my sandwich I headed
Gardens
Maybe a better shot of the retreat gardens to Mission San Luis Rey De Franca founded in 1798 by an order of Franciscan Friars. It was very beautiful and peaceful (well if you can ignore the 5 or 6 busloads of elementry school kids on a class trip). I walked the grounds then had a small picnic in the warm sun. I didn't get a chance to make the museum because yes you guessed the kids. But overall it was worth the stop. As a child our schools use to do field trips to local missions. The Missions run the length of California and some are very well kept up and others well...... After leaving I took a walk in downtown Oceanside and along their wooden pier. Lots of people fishing and walking just a real nice place to watch the Dolphins and surfers. Tred to catch the dolphins in a picture but they were busy following a sailboat for the wake, boy those dolphins like to have fun! And though the weather was a bit windy it was very nice. Tonight I hit the local Farmers Market so hope to have lots of new pictures in next entry so check back!
