Kailua Beach Park
Not only is it beautiful with soft powder white sand the waters warm too! Kailua Bound
Getting ready to meet up with Rick in Oahu more specifically
Kailua. So for the next two months I am going to explore, snorkel, check out the cuisine on the island of Oahu. So for any of you future Hawaiian travelers I will pass along any information I find, hopefully some useful travel tips, possibly some good restaurants to try or not to try, even an occasional food truck/plate lunch thrown in.
Well here I am in Kailua Hawaii. It has been really warm here but as beautiful as ever. Thank goodness foir the breeze or it would be just too hot! Not complaining mind you just pointing it out. I must say I am so surprised about how many people come to Hawaii in the summer. I always consider this a winter destination maybe because my thought is who wants to leave PNW in the summer.
Short entry. Not too much to say yet but I just wanted to get my blog started even though haven't done a whole lot. One thing about comming to Hawaii for so long you don't have to rush in and do it all in 1 week. So
Regatta
These boats are so beautiful. We heard they can be worth anywhere from 50,000 to 100,00 each. Wow thats a lot of fund raising! Made of Native Hawaiian Koa wood far I have been just spending time on the beach located right across the street from our duplex which is Kailua city park, a fantastic spot to be in. Kailua is often rate very high for its extreme kite surfing and paddle boarding. Luckey to be staying in our same house we have Our adopted Hawaiian family next door so that has been a huge bonus. They really do have the Aloha spirit! Already have a few invites to some local gatherings.
Rick and I took a drive around the island the other day (2-3 hours is a road trip here! LOL) to see some of our favorite spots. Went to North Shore/Haliewa which is where all the Monster Waves and Professional Surfing tournaments happen in the winter. However in the summer months the water is amazingly calm. We did some snorkeling at sharks point which was a lot of fun. I haven't seen any shark there but lots of turtles so where there is Turtle there probably is Shark. It was fairly crowded so you have to swim out a ways to get away from other snorklers, nothing worse than getting kicked by people swimming by. One of
Sharks Point/ Oahu North Shore
Here is a place that is popular for snorkeling. Not much coral but lots of fish. my absolute favorite things to do is snorkel. I love snorkeling as it always makes me feel a little like being an underwater explorer like Jaque Cousteu {sure this is misspelled}! It is such an incredible colorful world going on underneath the water surface. Rick has a hard time getting me out of the water, biggest thing I have gotta remember is to really put on gobs of sunscreen because it is like baking on glass floating around on top of the water.
H (Hawaiian) family gave us some fresh Ono to cook last night. Ono is a type of fish much like Mahi Mahi. I marinated in a little ginger and honey, soy sauce, lime zest and grilled it. It came out very tasty. Not being a big Fish eater I am trying to find ways that I can learn to enjoy it more and my Hawaiian neighbors are all about helping me. She often brings fish her brother in law catches for me to try. The Hawaiians of course eat a lot of fish and with all the other asian cultures that have settled here their diet consists of so many influences. Our H family has a
Tweaky Bush
Came along some very well maintained and tweaked plants on the beach. Not sure who is doing it but saw a tent nearby. Pretty cool! strong philipino influence going on rice at every meal.
Anyway I have to get going I am going to see someone about sailing lessons. Not sure how it will work out but certainly worth trying.
