Such a lovely surprise to be invited to Christmas lunch at Julia's. Julia lives just up the road and is a friend of Patricia's (who owns the house we live in). Julia and Robert made a frittata with caramalised onions and there was an organic cheese, sausage rolls and mince pies..and lovely champagne with orange juice. we brought some extra champagne and chocolates. Lovely lunch, lovely conversation and a very nice gesture of welcome.... read more

We love Larkspur. It is the cutest little town. For our rental tour, we visited 9 places and we loved all of them but there was one place that stood out from all the others. It was not on any of the house search websites because the owners were only just thinking of renting it out. They were transferring to the little studio apartment on the side of the house and renting out the bigger part of the house. they responded to a post on the local neighbourhood app "Nextdoor' by our relocation guide and so it was that we met Patricia and Robert and fell in love with their Marina Vista house. Not only is it at the top of a hill overlooking a wide expanse of stunning vista, it is elegant, stylish and fully ... read more

Arrived on a beautiful day and went straight to airbnb without drama from airport. Stayed in a gorgeous little studio apartment overlooking a valley with an excellent walk just outside the house. 'King Mountain' trail. Everyone was friendly and helpful. Herve had done a lot of preplanning so we went straight into busy mode organising the car, his driver's license (I can't get mine until i get a Social security number and I cant get that until i get approval to work..a lot of bureaucracy!) and most importantly the house rental tours. Before anything else was the banking which we did straight from the airport before we even went to the airbnb. Walking into a small bank in America is like walking back in time. You are greeted warmly and we all sit down for chitchat ... read more

Another early start today as I was off to Angel Island. I enjoyed another of the hostel's great breakfasts and then headed down to Fisherman's Wharf, where I would take the boat from. I had already purchased my tickets online and just needed to swap my reservation for my paper tickets. I was really surprised when I was looking on the internet at the ferry times and ticket prices, that they didn't run more frequently. I thought it would have been a really popular place to visit with lots of ferry options, but there weren't too many. After getting my tickets, I joined the queue and soon we were let on the boat. It seemed that it was a popular destination for school/camp groups as there was one or two on the boat. The boat took ... read more

After spending May and June ashore, we decided it was time to cast off—not on a big luxurious cruise ship but on our own boat. Mana is a Krogen trawler and has been our home for the past 24 years. We are docked in Sausalito and have enjoyed years of cruising San Francisco Bay and surrounding areas. Since there is a marina right at the Giants baseball park, we have gone to hundreds of baseball games not to mention playoffs and World Series games. Having access to the city by boat affords us great views of the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz and the Bay Bridge. It is easier to get a boat slip in San Francisco than a car parking spot. We have gotten to know the neighborhoods, each with their unique character and hang out ... read more

They say the road to Bolinas is paved with good intentions. This is probably because you will need them in order to locate this quirky little town that's tucked away among the outskirts of Marin County where all the directional road signs have gone missing. While in search of buried treasure, (and by treasure, I mean seashells), what started out as a last minute day trip that one fateful Sunday afternoon, became more of a real life treasure hunt. I really would need a secret map if I was to ever find the elusive "Bolinas Lagoon" that was listed as #10 in the "Top 10 Places to Beachcomb in the Nation", according to some article I found online that dated back to 2007. After a failed attempt at sea-shelling on the south side of Stinson Beach ... read more

This is my first entry in the Travel Blog. I am going to try and write a little bit in the blog before I leave for my trip. I feel that I have not documented my time at Berkeley enough. So yesterday, I went with Yihwen, Shirphone, and Hogar up to Mt. Tamalpias. They are friends of Yihwen's and I have had the opportunity to have many dinners with them at the house. Anywho, Mt. Tam is located in Marin county and it was such a clear day yesterday. You could almost see all the way to Berkeley. I think we concluded that you could see all the way to the mormon temple. I wore shorts expecting that it was going to be a nice day and it was. We parked near the mountain around ... read more

By melisse: Last weekend a large lump swelled above the plain of the flat sandy expanse of Kehoe Beach along Point Reyes National Seashore. Large black vultures lined the lump’s surface, eventually flying off as we neared. Much larger than a dead seal and piled like a large mass of old carpet, we circled the mysterious object trying to figure out what it was?!?! It looked like some sort of dead animal, but what? We were relieved at its lack of stench. I held fast to Quito to prevent her from rolling in it but as goats like to climb up onto any rise in terrain, Noggin proceded to walk on top of the taut swollen mound. We all ran like hell, hoping the fermented innereds didn’t explode, engulfing the sweet goat and covering us all ... read more
