This last day of our road trip was supposed to about surfing in the self-named surf capital of the US, Huntington Beach (HB). So we spent the night at Sea View Motel (no sea view though), just outside HB. HB definately got the surfing vibe, with loads of surf shops and surfer-friendly prices at the cafes, in addition to the most gourgeous beach. The morning started well, with offshore winds and glassy 3ft waves, but we needed some breakfast first. An hour later the wind changed to onshore (which turns the surf from glassy to messy), the waves got bigger and conditions were out of our league, unfortunately. So, we spent a couple of hours watching the guys who know how to handle it instead. Later in the afternoon, in a desperate attempt to get wet, ... read more

Hello my loyal readers. My travels are now coming to a close as this is my last night in california and I have a VERY LATE departure tomorrow night back to Melbourne (to the cold and my much missed kitty cats.) I have been treated like a queen by my much loved cousin shannon and her husband Grady and their two kids...Payton and Ava. They spoiled me on arrival with a massive picture on bristol board created by payton and the sun was HOT HOT HOT. Immediately you see the palm trees that makes this state famous and the homes are beautiful and the restaurants are HUGE!!!!! On my second night they surprised me with a birthday celebration that finally got me laid!!!! (with a flower lei that is), birthday hats, a fantastic Salmon dinner on ... read more

Presently I am in Cali with my cousin and her family....and I read my blog comments and it appears that I stand corrected having said that Grouse and Cypress are part of the rockies.....they state (name unknown) Grouse and Cypress are not part of the Rockies but are in fact COASTAL MOUNTAINS......okay.....I suck at geography on a good day....a good story to illustrate my lack of knowledge in this area would be....grade 7....the teacher asks for rivers in north america.......people were saying....the Fraser....the red...beaver....blah blah....and what do I spout out....."THE NILE RIVER"......the teacher looks at me and says "I am going to pretend I did not hear that"......I thought they simply said they did not hear my brilliant answer and I yelled it louder.......not my finest hour......I swear I have three degrees...... I woke up today at 5:30 in order to watch the French open finals between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal as well as some world cup soccer. Hazzah! Anyway, the reason I'm working on this entry is to talk about what I did yesterday when I was bored in orange county california. "What!", you say. "How could you be bored in 'the OC'!" Well, when you grow up here and you have no money, excitement grows kind of thin. However, the mind will persevere! My roommate and I were planning on going camping at San Onofre state beach but, alas, there were no available campsites. So we went to Barnes and Noble and looked at the "weird California" book for some ideas. We read Bodie CA, the ghost town, the Manson family bus still stuck in ... read more

After 2 weeks of non-stop sight seeing & camping in the cold it was a relief to reach the hotel back in LA again, comfortable in my mind that I'd made the most of my time in West America. I also had a smile on my face as Mick was going to be meeting me at the hotel! Mick had actually badly sprained his ankle playing football the night before his flight and was on crutches...something his football club who paid for his return flights wouldn't have been too happy about I'm sure! Anyway, we had a quick catch up, switched rooms in the hotel becuase they mucked up, then went for sushi with the people on my tour, a goodbye thing I guess. In the morning Mick and I headed to Huntington Beach in the ... read more
