Hi again!! Well after huge celebrations and the craziness of street parades and fireworks for Fidels 80th birthday, we left Cuba and headed back to Mexico laidened with Cigars, Rum, Cuban Art and various other bits and pieces. We had so much fun in Cuba and saw so many sites. The people were so inviting and approachable, we managed to catch the Buena Vista Social Club performing at the famous old Nacional Hotel with a whole group of other travellers that we met along the way. We all then went to a secret locals Salsa club which was incredible. The Salsa is as common to them as walking. The Salsa really does sum up the Cubans attitude towards life and each other. Only a few days later and in comparison to the earlier entries, a lot has been seen and done!! From Isla Mujeres we left with a ferry at 10 am and got to cancun just half an hour later or so, from the port we took the bus to the station and were able to get a bus straight away to Valladolid, a small colonial city from where we could easily make our way to Chichen Itza and move on to Merida in the Yucatan state. The hostel we wanted to stay at in Valladolid was closed for maintenance for a few days (I guess it´s low season..), so after a short breather in the park we phoned the owner to ask for a referral. Just a short note to say we are both wrecked from the sun, sand, snorkelling, pyramids, pool, dolphins, fish, coral, sangria, cenotes, underground pools of crystal clear water, cervesas, pina coladas and spanish. Segundo clase? other counter´ he grunted.. I wasn´t sure what he said. So I repeated.. I need a first class ticket to Valladolid at 2 PM. He finally understood, I am clueless. In broken english... he repeated that there are no more tickets but he can give me second class. That´s what want senor. He decided to give me the second class ticket instead of asking me to go to the other counter. 70 pesos... not bad. It was only about 1:15 PM and I have about an hour or more kill. So I walk around watching people. May be there are some people who are going to Valladolid.
