Only a few days later and in comparison to the earlier entries, a lot has been seen and done!!

From Isla Mujeres we left with a ferry at 10 am and got to cancun just half an hour later or so, from the port we took the bus to the station and were able to get a bus straight away to Valladolid, a small colonial city from where we could easily make our way to Chichen Itza and move on to Merida in the Yucatan state.

The hostel we wanted to stay at in Valladolid was closed for maintenance for a few days (I guess it´s low season..), so after a short breather in the park we phoned the owner to ask for a referral. She pointed us to a small hotel nearbu, but we saw Hotel Lili on the way there and decided to check it out. (And we didn´t feel like walking any further in the midday heat...) The cheapest deal was for a private room with ¨matrimonial bed¨and we decided to go for it, how bad could it be!! Well let´s just say we refuse to stay in a matrimonial bed again, Krista slept terrible (this

may have been due to Flora´s turning during the night). It was obviously a ¨little¨ smaller than European sizes, plus the Mexican people are slightly smaller too. We did have Cable TV and I (Flora) got my fix that night with the cheesiest Hallmark movie imaginable. Good stuff. Also had dinner in a little restaurant opposite the park and church in the centre. We notice we went slightly over budget our first week, so now we´re watching the dinner prices a little more.

The next morning we got up at 6am to catch the first bus to Chichen Itza. We got there at 8am and were the very first ones there which was great. It was still cool and it was amazing to be there and it being so quiet. We took about 3 hours exploring the whole site and when we left it was boiling hot and there were plenty of loud French/Swiss/German tour groups. So we were glad to have gotten up so early!! All worth it.

We then caught the 2nd class bus to Merida, which was a lovely bumpy ride through the villages on the way to Merida. More about Merida in the next blog.
