6:00 AM. I am up. I should be out by 6:45 to catch the bus that comes by about 6:50. No probelma. Shower, last minute packing (changed from duffel to backpack to duffel). Made sure that I packed the couple of Spanish phrase books and the tour guide to Yucatan.. Ready to go.. I looked out through the window. It is dark out there and it does look - mucho frio. Put the cap on and a jacket (what do I do with this Cancun).. As I walked out through the front door of the building, I saw the bus passing by. Raised by hand and waved at him... He did not stop. Damn it! Now, I have to wait for another 15 minutes in the freezing cold.. There I stood, with hands tucked under the ... read more
At about 10:15 finally we took off after 45 minutes delay.. I was already feeling very sleepy. The Starbucks feeling had already started to wear off. Since I have nothing else to do for the next 3 hours, I have decided to learn some Spanish and read about Yucatan. I should get ready for Cancun. Once I land, I should go straight to the bus station. Catch the ADO bus to Cancun bus station and then the 2:00 clock ADO first class bus to Valladolid. We land at about 12:00 PM. The immigration was pretty much nothing. Customs? Well, while the US is trying to figure it out with dogs and people, the Mexicans has already the advanced high-tech systems in place. They have this, traffic light looking system in place.. You walk over there and ... read more
Segundo clase? other counter´ he grunted.. I wasn´t sure what he said. So I repeated.. I need a first class ticket to Valladolid at 2 PM. He finally understood, I am clueless. In broken english... he repeated that there are no more tickets but he can give me second class. That´s what want senor. He decided to give me the second class ticket instead of asking me to go to the other counter. 70 pesos... not bad. It was only about 1:15 PM and I have about an hour or more kill. So I walk around watching people. May be there are some people who are going to Valladolid. There was a big sign at one end of the terminal that said ¨DEPARTURES´ There is a huge crowd waiting in front of it. But the man ... read more
All packed and almost ready to go. There were some 'movements' in the stomach area. Now it feels alright. It is ready for 'pollo pibil' and sopa de lima. The feeling is like you have a big worm in your stomach, which gets upset every now and then and starts churning around. I think, I packed too much. Change for 5 days, a bedsheet, towel, blanket (just in case if I have to sleep in the bus station!) book to read, english - spanish phrase book.. etc. etc. I am worried about the bike ride into the Coba park. May have to skip it if the backpack is too heavy. So tomorrow morning catching the 7 AM bus to Uptown and then 7:25 bus to the airport... But if I get up late, I will have ... read more
Well... I am not ready yet. Some kind of stomach thing is bothering me. I got one more day.. Hopefully I will feel better. I don't think those pollo pibil are going to help much when I get there. We will see how this goes. Now, I have the ticket to go and no accomodation yet. Planning to wing it. Here is my plan: 23 Dec: Land in Cancun with the Spanish phrase book (a little secret: though I have a spanish name, No hablo espanol) From Cancun, take a bus to Valladolid. Spend a couple of days there. Visit Chichen Itza etc. * 25 Dec: Coba on the way to Tulum * 25 Dec:Tulum. Spend a day. * 26 Dec: Off to Cancun via Playa Del Carmen May be a side trip to Cozumel. Stay ... read more
