Mike and Dave Swallow the Anchor for Awhile. Friends, Ever since we left La Paz, traveling North, it has gotten warmer and warmer as the summer advances. By the time we were in Bahia de Conception, it was pushing a hundred. In the bay El Burro, it was mostly windless, which really aggravates your discomfort. Speaking of El Burro, there is a restaurant on the beach there called Bertha’s where I had the best coconut battered shrimp I have ever eaten. The shrimp were fresh and cooked perfectly - tasty and tender - not the usual rubbery overcooked stuff. The dish came with a wonderful orange dipping sauce. Magnificent! We have been fishing on and off and along the way I caught a fish to big for my gear; my cheap Walmart made in China reel ... read more

Well, Justin and I left Claremont at about 9pm last night... Not the best way to start a trip, but after a marathon 24 hour driving session we finally arrived in Guaymas about two hrs ago. We covered over 800 miles, which put us back on track. We drove through Arizona to the Nogales crossing (which we were told was the easiest place to cross because it immediately turns into the Mex15 highway south of the border.) Our first international crossing went well and passed fairly quickly, which will hopefully start a trend. The Mex15D highway was the smoothest road either of us had ever driven on. For a meager $5.40USD in toll fees we traveled on a road so freshly paved that it hadn't even been painted yet. Driving in Mexico is completely different ... read more

Heading SouthOff bright and early in the Tutumobile for Thousand Oaks to hook up with our old neighbors in Spain, good friends, and traveling companions, Tom & Mary Ellen. They've been to South Africa, Tanzania and Hawai'i since we last saw them, we we're looking forward to catching up over a few glasses of vino tinto before heading for Mexico with them.October 5, 2007An early Friday start puts us in the thick of the Sime Valley Freeway commute traffic heading east at 80 mph in HOV lane. Finally, out of L.A.'s traffic tentacles we make a brief sojurn through Palm Springs on the Sonny Bony Freeway and then featureless speeding through the California & Arizona desert to drop our car at old friends' house in Phoenix and consolidate in one car for the journey south, spending ... read more

February 3, 2007. We continue to learn about this country, most everyone we have met has been kind and helpful . We did take Spanish lessons in Pittsburgh, but learning a new language is tricky. We can ask directions, order food, pay the bill, purchase tickets, exchange pleasantries, etc.; but we are far from being fluent, so we continue to blunder along. The trip from Bahia Kino to San Carlos/Guaymas is a long one, back to the main road, through Hermisillo, (this time we didn’t get lost) and south on 15. In the congested traffic areas, the driving is a challenge. We arrived at El Mirador RV Park/Hotel and the facilities are lovely. This park was built to US standards and is very clean. However, it caters to caravans making it crowded, and it is ... read more
