We have arrived at our winter home. All set up and enjoying the view and getting together with old friends....We arrived November 4th. after a long trip from Nogales, AZ to here in Mazatlan. Our first day, October 31st was just to San Carlos. We decided to stay three days to relax and rest up for the rest of the trip. With our new friends, Dale and Judy and their son, Alex we had a great time showing them what we love about San Carlos. It was the very first place we went in Mexico many years ago. It was in 1994. We parked on the beach and stayed three weeks. Met some amazing people and fell in love with the country. The people here are so warm and helpful. And we found that all the ... read more

Going to get some much needed rest and much needed relaxation before I go to Guadalajara. I slept most of the night this city is a noisy with the Pulmonia going around with there loud music. A Pulmonaia is a little four wheeler that will take you from one place to another along the beach and at on time it use to cost 50 cents about 35 years ago when I was first time I came here, now they charge 200 dollars. Pulmonaia means pneumonia in English. The four wheeler is open so you get hit with cold air at night so you might get pneumonia. I do not like to use them I use there bus system and it runs along the beach for 10 paseo that about 75 cents. The second day I spent ... read more

I was up all night I had Montezuma Revenge sicker than a dog. I was trying to decide if I should come home or keep on going to my next stop Mazatlán. I had some pills that I always take just in case I get sick so I started taking them and by morning I was filling better. I didn't even have breakfast I just stayed in my room until 2:00 pm that is the time they would pick us up and take us to the train. The lady that runs the hotel came out and thank us for stay there I thought that was nice of her. We loaded on the train around 3:00 pm and I just went to sleep and I could smell some thing cooking on the meal care and it was ... read more

Wednesday, March 18, 2015 As always, Todd is up and earlier (5:15am) to work on his computer before everyone else. Since this is my first morning on the ship, I needed to find a location on the ship that was quiet and where is a power source. Instead of going to the Piazza, I decided to head up to the Horizon Café. There is a coffee and the buffet should be slow. I was able to locate a place to hunker down for a while. It was quite peaceful, though I could not see outside because it was still too dark. I returned to the room around 7:00 am to get everyone up early. We were going to our first port, everyone else’s second port, Mazatlán. After everyone was up, dressed, and ready to go, we ... read more

Jan 25th to February 2nd 2015 Mazatlan sun beach and Tequila. Very hot, lots of history but a city not a town to socialize with the locals. The costs of Restaurants, hotels and anything you buy much higher than Canada even with the dropping Canadian dollar. BUT the market is the place to shop.... read more

North America » Mexico » Sinaloa » El Fuerte February 23rd 2015

Travelled today to arrive in El Fuerte a small city where the Indians and Spaniards fought it out in the 1600s.El Fuerte is now made up of Indians Spanish and crossbreds. In this town there were many rich. One of which the Character Zoro was born. After the death of his Mother he fled to California to steal from the rich to give to the poor. A legend that still holds hope and value in this country. We went on a river tour to see many unique birds and see the past culture. They are very big on nature medicines made from natural plants. We studied the carvings from the original Indians. The Chewie dog thinks he loves it here. He rides on the bus, goes to restaurants., boat rides and is loved by everyone.... read more

As told through my daughter: I was too young to see the obvious differences in our lives, but old enough to know how I felt about her. I loved when my mom brought me to play at Janeth's house. Her house was so different than mine and that made it exciting and fun; an adventure. Janeth's house always smelled so good. Her mom would be busy in the kitchen making tortillas, mashing avocados, slicing onions and cilantro. It was the most delicious Mexican food I'd ever eaten. I loved her tiny bedroom, just big enough to hold her bed, dresser and a window with a sun-catcher of a butterfly dangling. There was a hole in the wall, big enough to peek my head through and see into her brother's room. Janeth and her brother would shout ... read more

Well, 2015.......where has the year gone. We have been here on Stone Island for 2 months as of the 4th of January. People ask us, "so what do you do all day?" Well, sometimes we can't even answer that as we just don't do anything, except Gerry fishes, or we read our books, go for a walk on the beach, or visit with our friends here in the RV park. Other days we go over to Barry and Sonja's and visit or grocery shop, or just walk around Mazatlan. These last two weeks Bob and Ilse have been here. It has been great being with them. We had Christmas with them at Barry's and also New Years Eve. Lots of laughing and of course some drinking and great conversations. Thanks Barry and Sonja for your hospitality ... read more

North America » Mexico » Sinaloa » Mazatlan December 2nd 2014

In two days it will be a whole month that we have been on the island. And on the 10th of December we have been away from home for two months. Sometime we have to pinch ourselves to see if it is all a dream. The weather has turned very pleasant and the bugs are less. Not altogether gone, but less. Most days we have a slight breeze, so it keeps the bugs away. They still come out between 5 and 6:30pm, so normally we just go inside for that time. Tonight we are going to BBQ the second fish that Gerry and Barry caught. It is called a Bonito. Never tasted it before and all the locals eat it, but it is a oily fish so we will see. Last Sunday we went in Barry's ... read more

Well we have been here two weeks. Sometimes it feels like we just got here and other times the days just run into each other. It is definitely a much slower pace than I am use to. Also there isn't a lot to do here on the island. When you are use to working everyday and then all of a sudden you are not, it takes a bit to get use to. Everyday the vegetable man comes with his veggies and fruit. Which is really great because they are always fresh. Bananas (which I never eat at home), but they taste delicious here, avocados which are so good. Also he comes with pears and apples also. Sometimes they are really good, other times not so.... We experienced our first set of cruise ships this last week. ... read more
