This well kept lovely area is finally on the cruise line stops. Not good news to those Americans and Canadians that have been living there for years because it was truly inexpensive, still is but that will change. The new multi-million dollar golf course that will be completed in two years has the cost of housing skyrocketing. It is such a quaint city where the old town reaches the sea and the people are very friendly. I am considering moving there myself in the near future. I spend eight days there and every day the weather was special even when it was misty in the morning. It is fairly easy to get to as Continental flys directly into the Mazatlan airport. The drive down from Texas is about seven hours. People actually know how to drive ... read more

Pressing the “send” button was the last task my computer performed before hitting melt- down. It had been developing strange and erratic behaviour and is now well & truly kaput. Circuit Board history I guess. Originally Graeme was keen to wait to get home before purchasing another, due to potential import & warranty problems etc, but a few days of pestering to use his has soon changed all that. We need to be a two computer family again ASAP Our journey back up through Mexico began by heading along the Eastern coastline where the road runs parallel to the coast for many miles. At one point there are 3 islands, which are now connected by 2 long bridges, and often there is the ocean on one side and a lagoon on the other. Travelling along ... read more

Sometimes It just works out .... On the road to Mazatlan, MX (MZT) .... Flew out of Spokane before sunrise ... cold, windy and miserable ... so glad to get out of that ... headed out for a few days to relax by the warm Pacific ... In LAX every flight into Mexico is wide open except to Mazatlan (MZT) which is overbooked for the week … dreaded sleeping in the LA airport with little chance of even getting out the next day... my mind raced for an alternative ... so I decided to hop on the flight to Puerto Vallarta (PVR) and ride a bus back 8 hours to Mazatlan ... At the counter standing in front of me is this beautiful Non-Rev (airline staff flying standby as I do) that has just been pulled ... read more

The fuller version... Wednesday 29th June - Long haul to Los Mochis Another slow morning, making the most of the hostel before catching the early afternoon bus to Los Mochis. A long journey, initially a few hours through sparsely-populated scrub to Durango just before nightfall. We were going to stay in Durango to visit the Wild West film sets but they are only open at weekends. After Durango the night falls and the road gets wilder and wilder. It is difficult to sleep with the winding nature of the mountain roads across the Sierra Madre Occidentale to Mazatlan on the coast. Shame we did not see any of it. Thursday 30th June - Mochis to El Fuerte We arrive in Los Mochis at something like 08:30, we had expected to arrive at 0600 but the buses ... read more
