My company sends all qualified employees on a trip, once a year, all expenses paid. This year we flew into Cancun, Mexico, and then got carted down to a resort in Riviera Maya, Mexico. My sister went on the trip with me, and we left Tucson, AZ on the 18th. We got to the resort around 4:30 pm, and then at 7:30pm had a big "meet and greet" with all the employees and their respective guests. Of course, open bar. Other than that first night, the only time you saw other employees is if you planned to meet somewhere, or randomly bumped into each other. It was great. img=http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f144/gdogg... read more

Laguna Bacalar This place was gorgeous, helped out by staying in a proper hotel ie not a car, with a view of the laguna from my bedroom window. It's a quiet place to stop for a day or two, in fact, I could have stayed longer. The laguna, which is freshwater, clear and aqua as the Caribbean sea, has huge fish that get up to 2metres long. Apparently snorkelling is wonderful. We didn't have time to go but I forgot to say in the last entry, in Tulum, we did manage some snorkelling, and in a cenote, which was pretty damn cool. A cenote is basically swimming about in caves with lights. Visibility is fantastic, literally metre's and metre's stretch out beneath you. You don't really see fish, but you do get to explore stalagtites and ... read more

We've selected Mexico. It's our first foray out of Canada together that will last longer than 20 minutes! (My father-in-law got a little turned around at the "bridge" in Niagara Falls, Ontario sometime ago...long story!) We are travelling down with another lovely couple from our town and they are helping us to get our feet wet in the Travelling Set! We plan on leaving in March (when it's very windy, snowy and wet up here in Timmins, Ontario). Neither one of us has done the Spring Break scene when we were young and this is going to be great. I will be keeping a weekly documentation of the trip right up until the day we take off. Then, once we get back, I'll be able to give a full run-down of our experience together! If ... read more

Mahahual is definitely being groomed for a future as just another jump off point for fat tourists looking to blow a few bucks on pink tequila and bad tank tops. Some investor has purchased the port and pier and sealed it off from "real mexico" and painted it bright colors and pumped in music that will make the middle aged tap their feet and show some white skin. So, we jump off the ship...the first to do this in a while we came to find out. We were the talk of the town and from the first minute security was eye'n us. Through the throngs of beer guts and weekend texan party animals stood us with our packs... far too weighed down for a 3 hour excursion. Security stopped us at the ATM, the shops, the ... read more
