Hallo!
Also, unser vielleicht erstmal unser Tagesablauf im Waisenhaus.
I spent the day in an incredible scenic little puebla about 30 minutes away from Cuernavaca called Tepoztlan. It has a reputation as a center of power-like Sedona Az so it does have an element of tourism but it’s so charming, that’s easy to overlook. The market is very Mexican with an abundance of cheap food of all kinds readily available. Around the center of town, there’s an outdoor market with lots of handmade things but also lot’s of the usual crap. I visited the little museum in town where there are many incredible pre-Columbian artifacts, and then walked the town a little more and came upon a very nice little café with an upstairs eating area with a nice view of the mountains and the pyramid on top. I actually had hibiscus tacos with guacamole, ... read more
Tepoztlan - 5 days of Spanish classes and good food
Published: December 26th 2009North America » Mexico » Morelos » TepoztlánShakked and Amit summarized in their journals so well these past five days in Tepoztlan that citing them will be the best way to go: Shakked: "This is an amazing town! Brightly painted houses and stores are built on either side of a cobbled street and breathtaking mountains loom all around. Vendors wait at every corner, selling their goods. But, in my opinion, the most amazing part of the city is the market. Booths and shops are built in a huge plaza, unlike anything back in Hawaii. People roam around, chomping on delicacies while chatting with friends or bargaining about prices. And the things for sale! Brightly colored wooden drums, flutes, masks and bowls. Beautifully carved and painted pottery, toys and musical instruments. Most of the time we (Amit and I) learned Spanish in an amazing little ... read more
Tepoztlan is a fabulous little town! I loved the town, loved the vibe, even loved the hike to the ruins! The hike itself was hot and arduous but totally worth it. At the very top, the very first thing we saw, a stand selling taquila! I thought, yeah right! I don't want to be both drunk and wobbly on my way back down! At the very bottom of the hike, I saw a toilet more primitive than I could imagine, and spent the rest of the afternoon exploring the town, smelling the cooking and spice smells, seeing the colors and the mountains, feeling the sun and the mountan air. ... read more
Hola! Yesterday I went to a town about 30min away called Tepoztlan. It is really green, mountainous, and lush. There is a hike up to an ancient Aztec pyramid with a great view. I went with three other volunteers, Josie, Tommy, and Leslee and Leslee's mom who was visiting. The trail is steep and rocky and there were a TON of people. There were a ton a families too with little kids. The Mexicans hiking looked like they were dressed to the mall! This one woman we saw was walking down in high heels!!! I was scared to loose my footing with my all terrain outdoor sandals on. We had a great lunch afterwards, and then walked around and shopped. I bought a cool t-shirt with this Aztec woman on the front. I hope these pictures ... read more
Never in my life, no matter how many sports I've played, have I endured the type of workout I got yesterday. At 7:30 in the morning we woke up and had to be at school for what the coordinators described as our "Welcome Party"of sorts. They said it would involve food, shopping, and a "short hike" up to the top of a mountain that would give a superb view of the city...HA! Well after a relaxing 45 minute busride we stopped in this middle of nowhere bus station and unloaded into what at first seemed like somewhere that civilization hadn't existed in years. From there all 50+ students started a treck into town. This time it wasn't too bad, almost interesting to walk towards the city...and the weather was newar perfect because it was so early ... read more
Last week was the week of the Fiesta. It all began on Sunday in Ixcatapec with Barbacoa at Adrian´s house (oh my Spanish addled brain had a problem with writing that, it wants to say the casa of Adrian) which is meat, in this case lamb, or possibly horse we were told (joke) is cooked in a pit Ray Mears style and it is yummy! Ali, his young nephew and one of the becarios was so pleased we were there and told everyone all week that we went to his house for the fiestas and that I had 2 beers and Becky had 2 as well! Then Tuesday was the Mother´s Day Festivals in camp with mucho dancing and merriment all round...that wasn´t really so much fun what with me not being a mother and all! ... read more
