Barra de Nexpa After walking the mile out of La Ticla with all our gear, we got to the bus stop looking like we´d just stepped out of the shower. We got the bus to Nexpa and got dropped off at another cobblestone road, but this one wasn´t so much of a struggle as it was all downhill. We found a cabana 20 metres from the water, and it was five star compared to La Ticla. It had a fridge, kitchen to make our own rice and beans, indoor bathroom and 2 floors. Stylin. And we knew Nexpa was a step above Ticla because the dogs pretty much had all 4 legs in working order, and ears and tails, unlike Aerodynamica. Nexpa is a smaller town than La Ticla, but everyone is there to surf. Its ... read more
I had been eager for months to leave the US which I sometimes allow to build like a poison inside me until the pain is unbearable. I have crossed the Mexican-US border by land four or five times now. One thing that an overland traveler realizes very quickly if he or she is at all lucid is that borders are a criminal and absurd tragedy. This border illustrates this well. The US side is a little chaotic, and it becomes much more chaotic once on the other side. I had crossed before in Tijuana, but never in Nogales. They are similar but Nogales seems less sinister and is much more navigable. Ok, I've been really bad lately at keeping my blog updated I know. However I am travelling remote places on the Pacific coast of Mexico. I will update photos at a later date. I wish I could share some of the photos with you now as I am having an excellent time here. Different but an experience to say the least. Started in Puerto Vallerta (PV) which is a tourist destination for the Gringos (Americans) for a few days and then headed North to Sayalita which was gorgeous. No surf there though so after hooking up with Tom (English but not his fault) and Nate (crazy american dude that lives a simple life with his machette and coconuts) we went to San Blas. Got back into surfing there and eaten alive by bugs. I wasn't enjoying ... read more
Mexico - Barra de Nexpa
Published: February 12th 2007North America » Mexico » Michoacán » Barra de NexpaThis blog by Jacqui: We find the bumpy steep turnoff into Nexpa and find ourselves seemingly in the midst of a surf video- with a beautiful point break, clear, cool, bird sanctuary lagoon, and two story thatched cabanas with hammocks lining the beach. We spend an awesome three days here with Tom and Carolyn, drinking beers, playing hearts and scrabble and swimming. Tom braves the swell and is sweetly rewarded! This is a world destination surf spot as evidenced by the many nationalities represented in the waves. We stay on after Tom & Caroline depart and continue to live like kings in this surf hamlet. Think 40 ounce Mango smoothies and fresh fish tacos every day. Need we say more... the photos tell all about this idyllic point break oasis in Mexico. ... read more
