Change----for some it may mean fear---for others it can mean opportunity! Mary, a former ASF employee, now Executive Director of English Publishing with a company called Santillana International was delighted when told that Linda was no longer teaching. She arranged to meet with us. Linda was very excited to be offered a job authoring teacher guides and student activities. Using existing novels, she'll be creating materials more in line with the IB approach to teaching and making use of modern technology! We will both be able to work on this from anywhere in the world, from our home computer. Learning Spanish was high on our agenda now that we are retired. Friends had been to Spanish classes in Oaxaca and had stayed with a family while there. They highly recommended we give it a try, and ... read more

June 17th, we were on our way back to Saskatchewan for the summer. The flights with Air Canada were smooth and on time, and we arrived back to a warm welcome. We managed to get settled in on Saturday and then Sunday morning we were off. Our first stop was Langham, where we said hello to Linda's Mom and Dad, then onto North Battleford where we joined Maurice's Mom and Dad, and sisters Rose Marie and Colette for Father's Day lunch. Then we drove to Turtle Lake where we enjoyed a very warm, joyful reunion with Maurice's family and celebrated Saydi's birthday, Holly's graduation and Father's Day, all in one party! On Monday we started shopping seriously for an older camper that we could pull with our Honda Ridgeline. After 2 days of searching from Lloydminster ... read more

Hello there! How´s it going? Box of tissues at the ready? The time has indeed come for my final blog of the trip, so if things get a bit emotional then don´t say I didn´t warn you. Since I last wrote we´ve been in Mexico, where we started off in Tulum, which looking back has probably been our favourite spot in the country. The beaches all along the Caribbean coast have been fairly spectacular but for me Tulum will probably have to go down as my favourite of the entire trip. I´d try and explain how good the colour of the water was to you, but there just aren´t any words I´m afraid. After Tulum things became a little less backpackery and a lot more touristy as we encountered the holiday resorts that this part of ... read more

Travel Bug!!! Friday afternoon, and we feel that it is once again time to travel and explore this fascinating country. It is one thing to travel to tourist sun destinations, however, we have enjoyed the opportunity to travel and see so many parts of Central Mexico. One of the differences we find between Mexico and the US or Canada is that every city here has a very distinct and unique flavour to it. On this week-end, we chose to visit Guanajuato, a silver mining city which Mexicans refer to as small, only a million people or so, set in the Sierra Gordas, about 4 and a half hours north of DF. Once again we met under the clock at the Juanacatlin metro station at 3PM, and continued on to the Centro de Autobus Norte ( the ... read more

After such a nice restful week-end away, we settled back into the school routine, up at 5:30AM, and to bed about 9:30. Oh, we are now an hour ahead of Saskatoon, so we shut down the computer about 9-9:30 our time which shuts down our communications. We do have cell phones though, and actually text quite a few people from home. On Wednesday, May 11th, ASF held their annual Teacher Appreciation Day which meant that any teachers who wished to participate could take a bus immediately after school to a hall just across the street from the Auditorio Nacional in Polanco. After being at the Auditorio Nacional for the symphony, we were pleased to at least we know where we were in the city. The hall is a Casino and it was beautifully decorated to match ... read more

With Linda settling back into school and I into the routines we have become familiar with, the week passed, and we then enjoyed a week-end here in DF. There is always so much to do, Friday night we joined Renee and Megan for supper in Polanco which is just across Chapultepic Park from Condesa where we live. Then, it was on to the Auditorio Nacional, a gorgeous 9683 seat auditorium where we enjoyed as symnphony playing "Queen" music all night. It was delightful, Linda was wishing the 200 member choir would have sang more, but we reminded her it was after all a symphony. Saturday night, we walked to Roma where a teacher we know was the DJ for the evening. Just as we were considering leaving, we were the only other people there, the young ... read more

What a wonderful surprise! My daughter, Leslie, is working with a company that has a clinic in Tijuana, and they decided to fly her in to spend a week at the clinic. So she called and said "What would it cost to fly from Tijuana so that I could come and see you for a few days?" Two weeks later, I met her at the airport Wednesday evening and we cabbed home and got her settled in. Her goal, she said, was not to rest but to see all she could in the four days she had here. So Thursday morning, with that in mind,we were off to Chapultepic Park and a visit to the castle, the only Royal Castle in the American Continent What a huge and grand fortress it is. Now the National Museum ... read more

Wow, how time flies, and it has been a while since we have blogged! After returning from Pie de la Cuesta, we spent a quiet couple of weeks here in DF, catching up with school, Linda is busy doing her International Bauclareate accreditation as well as some tutoring. There is such a demand that even I have attended a few tutoring classes with other teachers, and after Easter may take on some tutoring myself. However, I seem to have no trouble keeping busy looking after everything else that needs doing. Then, Friday, Febuary 25th, off we went to San Miguel de Allende, about 4 hours Northwest of here. Stephanie, a young teacher at ASF, and her husband Alex, a webpage designer, joined us for our excursion. We left right from school, meet up at the metro ... read more

After being in Saskatoon for Christmas, we enjoyed just being home here in DF in January. But now, time to go again!Fran and Jo Anne, teacher buddies, had never been to Morelia and we finally found a place they have not visited yet. So off we went, leaving from the bus depot at Observatorio, which is close to the school. We thought the buses we have been riding were comfortable, but for only 50 pesos more, we chose to ride with ETN, the luxury line that charges a bit more and gives way more. Wow, seats were so big that they were only 3 across and the bus can only carry 26 passengers so we had an extra foot of space between rows. Wi-Fi, TV, and games were on a remotely controlled screen on the back ... read more

December 18th, and we are off for home, Canada! We enjoyed a leisurely morning and headed to the airport around noon. We arrived in Saskatoon at 12:30 A.M. and were greeted by..........3out 4 grandchildren, of course. What a welcome! A banner and smiles all around! Leslie and her 3 children were waiting for us as was Aaron, who gave us a ride home. There Linda and I were at 2 in the morning, looking out the picture window at the beautiful winter scene displayed outside while standing in our warm and toasty home. We had never appreciated central heating that much before. Marty, who lives downstairs, has the thermostat set at 75, it is cooler down there than it is upstairs and we mellowed in the heat. Sunday, up and at it. You guessed it, couldn't ... read more
