Hi! This is my first entry in this blog! lets start: So, last weekend I went to Mexico city to see some friends and, since I had a whole day for me, I decided to take the subay to Mexico City's "centro historico". As always, the experience was great, even if the weather was horrible, we got to see the aztec ruins of "templo mayor" and walk all the way from zocalo to the Latinoamerican tower. BUT by far the best part of the visit was the concert in the zocalo, I even got some video of the whole experience for my Vlog, which I add below. I hope you like it, sometimes I will only write my travels and sometimes I will be adding the videos I make during these travels! ... read more

So back on the road again after 3 days....we headed back to the mainland of Belize where we caught a bus departing from the bus terminal at 7 pm at night arriving in Tulum at 1 am. Now what we are quite use to is bus terminals. Bus terminals are always the pits of any country, smelly, filled with beggars, no selection of good food and always crowded. This bus terminal was no different apart from it being on one of the dodgiest roads of Belize where we were given strict instructions not to leave the terminal due to the crime around the area....however Dan and Scott being boys were desperately hungry and decided to cross the road and get some Chinese......I wished they hadn't as the food we received for what we paid for it ... read more

After Scott and I parted ways, I took a bus north to the city of Guanajuato. When I went to Chile in January, I fell in love with a charming little city on the coast called Valparaíso. Guanajuato, 5 hours north of Mexico City, reminded me a lot of Valparaíso, so that should give some indication of how much I liked this new city! A friend of mine lives in Guanajuato and he kindly offered to give me a tour of the city. We wandered around the old historical centre for a while, so that I could see some of the churches and wonderful colourful buildings, and the streets filled with open-air cafes and restaurants. We went to the Diego Rivera House and Museum, where he was born. The downstairs rooms have been kept as they ... read more

Mexico City truly is a beast of a metropolis, boasting the largest number of museums in the world, a huge assortment of great art galleries, and numerous parks and plazas. The architecture across the city is astounding, and the colours and styles that can be seen differ from district to district. And as there are museums, monuments and beautiful tree-filled plazas throughout the entire city, it is guaranteed that no matter which district you choose to spend your day in, there will be plenty to see and do. Our hostel (which was called Hostel Cathedral or Hostal Mundo Joven depending on who you asked), was situated directly behind the city's main cathedral, on the main plaza which is known as the 'Zocalo'. The Zocalo is a constant hub of activity, particularly during the Day of the ... read more

Mexico Journey: 9thNovember – Arriving at the airport in Perth at 4.30 am Friday to discover that we needed Transit visas to transit Dallas airport (2 hours) seemed to us ludicrous to stop us dead, but there it was. The flight could not take place until we logged in and paid our transit visas ( $14 each), but we had to do this ourselves. We tried to set up our computer, to find that the signal was too weak ( 15 minutes of persevering), then recommendation was to run up to Virgin terminal to try the free internet computers there - 5 minutes of wasted running, because the machines were down (me), then asking a Qantas sales person – “sorry I don’t have internet here”. A passing passenger offered to use her mobile which had good ... read more

Hello all, Hope your summer holidays are treating you well. I hear the weather full on sucks in the UK...eek! It's been a while...mainly because I've been busy sunning myself and the like. Hah. Well, term 3 at school passed in a flash due to end of term (and prior to that beginning of term and middle of term) madness! I can't actually believe that I've been living in Caracas for a whole year. Or that I'm going back for another year. This is the first time in my short (4 year) teaching career where I'll not only be returning to the same school (SHOCK) but to the same continent! Whooooo! Mixed feelings about that at the moment but I am glad to be going back into the same stage in the same school and not ... read more

It has been a while since I have written a blog, since going to Mexico City we have been in Los Angeles, Fiji and Hong Kong and I am now writing this from Bangkok. Plenty to fill you all in on! I don't know where to begin with Mexico City. We arrived on 9th May and left on the 13th in what turned out to be a pretty eventful 4 days. It all started with a taxi journey from the bus station with the worst taxi driver in the world. We get in and ask him to take us to the Zocalo which is basically the Trafalguar square of Mexico City and here sits the city's cathedral as well as our hostel. The guy doesn't know it so I show him a map, he still doesn't ... read more

Arrive in Mexico at 7pm. I made a decision to visit Mexico and Central America on a total whim and haven't done any preparation so suddenly it all feels very surreal at the airport. I think: “why on earth am I in Mexico??” then I think: “ Tequila!!!” I am staying with a girl called Gaby in downtown Mexico city. I have found Gaby on airbnb. I rock up at the flat and am greeted by a pretty, skinny, 29 year old Mexican with elfin hair and large green eyes. Her apartment is gorgeous, huge and light and filled with plants. She has green tea on the shelves and a quote in the kitchen that reads: The only journey is the one within. On her wall in the living room is a postcard from Foyles – ... read more
