Nice drive from Whitehorse to here. Crossed into British Columbia a couple of times going down the Trans Canadian highway. The vastness of the Yukon is overwhelming. Adds to the amazing beauty. Last night in the Yukon. Going to catch a light supper and hit the road early. Here we come BC. Hopefully we can avoid the forest fires!!... read more

We made it to the Yukon Territory! ? Decided to leave the beauty of Muncho Lake after Don caught his fish. The limit is two and he figured since he hadn't had any luck from the shore and only caught one from the boat that we would mosey on down the road. Ended up in Watson Lake at the Downtown RV Park with all the other Caravans. This place had 80 sites and they were all full! We were packed in like sardines. It is nothing to look at as evidenced by the picture I took the morning after everyone left. Basically just a gravel parking lot but it has wifi, 50 amp, AND cable TV! Therefore this place is a 5 star?!! We got in early because we knew the caravans were headed here and ... read more

Up at the usual ungodly 5:30 am hour with the sunset at 10:30 PM & sunrise at 4:37 AM temperature 42° and brief shower in the morning, try to work on blog but no Internet. Hit the road at 8 AM for our plant 327 mile day. Pretty boring ride with unending white spruce and lodgepole pine trees along The road, as they are the two principal trees of Yukon Territory with white spruce the most common. At the 55 mile point from Westlake, we hit 13 km of road construction resulting in 25 mph speed. Views of George's and Cassier mountains along the way. We came upon Teslin Lake which straddles the British Colombia and Yukon Territory borders; it is 86 miles long, average is 2 miles across and has an average depth of ... read more

After a superb dinner at the Lodge’s restaurant, and a very restful sleep, we woke up to a monsoon going on outside our RV. To say we were disappointed is an understatement, as this next stretch of the Cassier Highway is known as the most scenic. We were hopeful that the weather would clear as we headed north. Ray and John unfortunately had the outside jobs of disconnecting everything and trudging off to get rid of the garbage. The plus side was they didn’t need to clean the windshield of bugs this morning. We decided to see how far up towards the Al-Can (Alaska-Canadian Highway) we could get today, and hopefully find an RV park that had internet. As we drove along, we had glimpses of what was hiding behind the clouds and rain, but did ... read more

27 Jul 2016: The gentleman at the adjoining campsite in Ft Nelson was returning from his third trip to Alaska. He advised us to stay at the Downtown RV Park in Watson Lake. Reviewing my itinerary, I found I had tentatively selected that during the planning stage so I felt my good judgement had been confirmed. Driving North out of Ft Nelson we encountered a sign reading something like, "No services next 152 km. Check your gas. I Checked my gas. One quarter full. Whoops, better turn around and fill up. We drove 17 miles before we could find a place to turn around. Seventeen up, back and back up or 51 miles was about an hour's worth of driving, not to mention seven gallons of gas. From now on, we will drive BACK to the ... read more

Well plans change. We left Tok and planned to go to Watson Lake to stay but instead got to Whitehorse and we were tired so we found a motel. Whitehorse is and interesting town with lots of history. It is the capital city of the Yukon. 27,800 folks live here and it was part of the big Yukon gold rush. Supposedly it has the least air pollution of any city in the world. Since I have already been this way I took few pictures. Same on Day 17 as we went to Dease Lake BC Dease lake is in the middle of nowhere and we had no phone service and no internet hence the combination of two days. We did meet a few other bikers who were at the same establishment and we sat and shared ... read more

When we left Dawson Creek I said to Michelle, "I think we will begin to see some real wilderness on this leg". Well that lasted for about 45 minutes until we made Ft. St John, a pretty big city and the trucking capitol of Western Canada. They even had a Walmart. Past that oh, it really gets lonely. After following the rivers and valley on our first leg we were on the eastern side of the Rocky Mountains where there are mostly rolling hills and forest to the north and plains to the east, mountains to the west. We made good time over the smaller hills looking for bears and moose while listening to satellite radio and eating road goodies. It’s a pretty drive but we were disappointed, we still haven’t seen a moose. Michelle said ... read more
Would like to say that it wasn't as bad as it looks...but it was.
Yes, we went over that, the highest point on the Alaska Highway, in the snow

Day: 23/24 Distance: 8224 Well yesterday was dedicated a driving day. I had already been on this stretch of the highway so the goal was to get as close to BC as feasible. I got to Watson Lake which was my original destination at around 10:30PM (it was a long day though I did lose an hour leaving Alaska). I'm not sure why I said that this streach was just full of trees and implied it was rather boring because I was mistaken. I must have been talking about leaving Dawson Creek going west on the Alaskan Highway (also referred as Alcan Highway) when I wrote that opinion. In fact, the drive was very beautiful with large lakes, majestic mountains and lots of lots of rain. I'm also not sure how I forgot that portions of ... read more

We left Dawson City relatively late knowing there wasn't a lot to see at Carmacks. The weather was superb to start with then clouded over a bit. We stopped briefly at Stewart Crossing so the bikes could fuel up then carried on to Pelly Crossing where we had a coffee. Seemed like an odd town with not a lot going for it. Once we got to Carmacks we fuelled up and had a wonder around the shop. The accomodation and restaurant were really good. Much better than when we last stayed there. Only drawback was some very loud drunk people fighting outside at stupid-o'clock. This morning we prepared for the long (and sometimes rough ride to Watson Lake. We headed out around 8 with 583kms to ride. The weather looked sketchy and as we didn't want ... read more
