So many memories have drifted in and out of thinking this week now that we're back from Prince Edward Island. The conversations about the impact of our time helping build Jocelyn's and Alexina's home have peppered most conversations with others this week. Even though we gave our generosity, time, effort, and love, it feels like we came away with more than we gave. We gave hope to a young family who has been in the process of qualifying for a Habitat home for four years. We gave words of encouragement written on the interior wall frames and behind siding panels. We gave encouragement to each other and to the other volunteers who joined us during the week. We gave our willingness to be vulnerable and become acquainted with one another at a much deeper level. We ... read more

After a half day on the job site and a delightful afternoon touring and shopping in Charlottetown, the team headed to the coast for a delicious dinner at The Chowder House. An amazing sunset over the Northumberland Straight left us breathless and awestruck. As we reflected on our week thus far, the team shared words like: awesome teamwork, lots of laughter, amazing team, encompassing, exciting, eh, learning new things, encouragement, up in the air (reference to a lot of work on high scaffolding), energetic, ambassadors, camaraderie, building greatness, and serving. Weaving those phrases together and sung to the tune of "Amazing Grace", we realized yet again the amazing work we have been called to do on this Island, for this community, and in partnership with this family. Thanks be to God!... read more

This year marks Thrivent's 10th year in partnership with Habitat. Amazing things happen when thirteen people with heart commit a week of their lives to help a family become home owners. The thirteen of us from Thrivent partnering with the local Habitat Affiliate, Don (the best construction manager who not only directs us but is also teaching us valuable construction skills), Travis (a local student who is studying to become a machinist), Pascal (an exchange student from Quebec here to sharpen his English speaking skills), and technical contractors doing electrical and plumbing have made some amazing progress this week. Today we finished the framing for front and back decks, finished the inside to be ready for sheet rock, and completed the roof prep to be ready for shingles. Most of us have not had much construction ... read more

It's amazing what can be accomplished with 26 hands and feet, 13 great brains and willing hearts. We started from just a wooden shell. In two days we can now see how it will become a home. The insulation team, inside wall team. roofers, skirting to prep for the siding, electricians, plumbers, doors and windows.....such a coordinated effort and all directed by our amazing construction manager Don. We hear he is the best in the Western Hemisphere having built around the world, including sky scrapers and the Toronto Sky Dome. His warm demeanor, patient heart, and willingness to field a bazillion questions has sped our progress to be ready for siding, roof shingles and prepping for sheet rock. Besides the build, we have enjoyed amazing meals and fellowship. Tonight we met Sadat, an Afghani refugee restaurant ... read more

The plan for today was to make it to Therese's Aunt's Sister's house just outside Montague, PEI where we would meet some family, enjoy a nice house, and spend some time relaxing. Montague is only a short 60-ish km from the University in Charlottetown, so we knew we had time to spare. We decided to sleep in a little in the morning, and didn't head to the university cafeteria until about 8:00. When we got there, we bumped into the Assphat Wheelers again, and had a nice relaxing meal with them, discussing more about our respective trips, and plans for the next few days, and biking in general. These guys were really great, and it was fun spending a meal with them. We also exchanged Blog addresses. By the time our relaxing breakfast was over, and ... read more
