Geo: 43.6485, -79.3854Thursday 24th Back in Toronto and felt a bit warmer. After Montréal, Toronto seems so much more familiar. We're staying at the University Club of Toronto, which is very welcoming and comfortable. We didn't do a lot this afternoon; we walked around, ate cheesecake and rested before dinner. We were a bit tired. Who knew sitting on the train for 5 hours could be soooo tiring. We had Korean food for dinner, at the same place Alan went to last time. It's still here 5 years on, so it must be doing something right. Friday 25thThe weather forecast for today was rain, rain, rain. But luckily we didn't feel a drop. After a wonderful breakfast in the Club we walked up University Avenue to the Legislature of the Province of Ontario, a very imposing edifice ... read more

Do not understand where my previous entry went. Part of it appears here, not all. I hate technology. It's over come us. It's eaten us and spit us out and we don't even realize it.. What did you miss? 12 hours killing time in Toronto Pearson. Constantly impressed by niceness of Canadians. Read in my book about the Silk Road. Had a Godfather with Dewars to destress. Was told that my 8 hour flight to Lima would not provid eme with a meal. The agent at the Air Canada desk said that could not be. It is illegal to imprison people in the air without food. All I had was Vietnmese chicken broth, and although it was excellent Vietnamese chicken broth, it will not sustain me for the next 9 hours. Dealing with nonfunctioning tech is ... read more

Geo: 43.7001, -79.4163It's been five years since Hamish's last North American conference was held in Toronto, and Alan is joining him for a few days of holiday. After a pleasant flight of under 8 hours, Alan arrived in a rather cold but bright Toronto. Cold as in 2°C. Since our last visit Toronto has built a rail link from the airport to Downtown and the transfer was easy, albeit took a bit of time.18th March: Woke up quite early because of the jet-lag. Put it this way, I heard the City Hall clock chimed 4! We had Canadian breakfast at Tim Hortons - grilled bagel with bacon and egg, hash brown and coffee. We like to eat local as you know. Hamish just had a bagel with cream cheese. It did the job of filling our bellies. ... read more

Geo: 43.6485, -79.3854Our departure city is Toronto. We left around 11 am. The roads were dry and good. We went through customs in Sarnia with no delays. We arrived in Toronto at 2:30 and checked into the Comfort Inn. After resting for a bit we headed to downtown Toronto for some dinner. We were lucky to be able to locate a neighborhood Polish restaurant called Kovalsky''s. It was a great choice. The food was delicious! Later this evening we will be catching a shuttle from our hotel to the airport. Our direct flight to Hong Kong departs at 1:20 am.... read more

I woke up in the morning to the strong smell of weed, this was something I thought that I could smell throughout the night as well. Alex told me that he and Grant had purchased some the previous evening and that I should go and deliver this to him. I went up to Grant's room and he wanted nothing to do with it and tried to flush it down the toilet however, on the first attempt it came straight back up and he had to cover it in toilet paper for it to go down! It also turned out that Grant had paid another $15 to an uber taxi which had already been paid for, the taxi driver probably couldn't believe his luck! No-one really had much nice things to say about the club that they ... read more

It was quite an early start as we need to be at CN tower by 11 and it was another lengthy walk to get there, it was not a trip with public transport use it would appear! I must admit that I was quite nervous about doing the edgewalk now that the day had finally come; before that I had watched the videos and though it would be a breeze. I think everyone else was feeling the same way as well. On arrival the people running the edgewalk were great and helped everyone to feel a bit more at ease and nobody failed the breathalyzer test either! The guide who would be leading the walk was also great and he clearly loved his job and after doing it who wouldn't. The view of Toronto and the ... read more
