Day 3 in Horty's hometown. We will be spending a couple of days here in Miramichi just to rest before our big trip over West. Miramichi is a small town but I really like it. It has charm and a special uniqueness. I'd love to have a home here, on the waterfront of course, so I can watch the ice flows and imagine the salmon swimming by. I hit some of my favorite spots. I need to get a car next time I am here so that I may roam around while Horty works. Oh and I LOVE LOVE LOVE Tim Horton's donuts. The lemon thingies are to die for!... read more

Over night it poured, I think we need to build an arc. Dickson Falls was our first stop. With some rain/drizzle we hiked out to the falls in a deep valley, mostly on a boardwalk/steps. The rain has created lush wilderness with delightful smells of wood and pine. Herring Cove, our next stop, is a viewing spot for the tides of Fundy, the highest tides in the world. We caught the tides as high tide was approaching. The best time to view the tides is low tide, oh well! A quaint covered bridge leads us to Point Wolf. The trail winds down to a cove with some lovely rocks. It is now such a treat to return to the Bothan, out of the rain for some hot soup. Time to dry off. Our trip in the ... read more

LOCATION: St. John to Fundy NP of Canada DATE: Saturday, June 10 TITLE: The Fundy Trail Parkway We found Carleton Martell Tower build by the British during the War of 1812 to prevent American invasion. The circular stone fortification is a national historic site. As we drove from St. John to St. Martins, the rain returned with a vengeance. Truly we watched “cats and dogs” fall from the sky. But, “You won’t get to where you want to go, if you only travel on the sunny days.” St. Martins is an isolated town on the Bay of Fundy (FB), however it is also the access point for Fundy Trail Parkway. It follows the coastline of FB and is a magnificently developed for biking, hiking or driving. The scenery, between the fog, was exceptional. The amenities included ... read more

LOCATION: Lubec, ME, to St. John, NB, via Calais (the border) : We were up early and over the bridge into Canadian soil to the Roosevelt Campobello International Park. Campobello is a compact island at the mouth of the Passamaquoddy Bay dedicated the FDR. Campobello has been home to both humble fisherman and wealthy families. Arriving at the visitor’s center, we realized just how early we were…it was not open yet. So we walked the trails down to the water and around the “Cottages”. FDR’s parents vacationed here with their child for years, and eventually purchased several acres and built “cottages”. It was a favorite vacation retreat for FDR, Eleanor and their children. The grounds are meticulously manicured and the cottage seemed to be over staffed with guides. We continued driving to Calais the border town ... read more

Miramichi, I bid thee farewell. It was my last day here in northern New Brunswick. I took one last look at the Miramichi River and realized how big rivers are here in Canada. Rivers in Texas are little streams compared to the Miramichi. One day I want to be the first Mexican to swim across it. I will even have a press conference before I take the plunge! I will miss Horty :( He's taken me to the bus station in Campbelton, home of the World's Biggest Salmon. I guess Canada likes World's Biggest Type of Stuff. I shed a tear or two leaving. I am not sure why. I have liked Canada or maybe I am just homesick. However, as I was passing Rimourski I started to laugh. What the heck am I doing so ... read more

New Brunswick!!! Finally met my Internet friend Horty! He is the best EVER! Plus he's going to drive me around so that's not so bad. He picked me up in Stevensville, New Brunswick and I will be spending a couple of days with him. He took me to Moncton to see the world famous tidal bore! Which is really just a river that slowly fills up according to the rushing in of the tides at Fundy Bay...or something like that. All I know is that the waters look like chocolate milk. We also spent some time in Shediac, New Brunswick, The Lobster Capital of the World. How do I know this? Well 1) There was a sign and 2) The have a ginormous lobster statue!!!! I would worship at its alter if I could. Eventually I ... read more
