Riding Mountain National Park Travel Blogs

Background: A land of vast distances and rich natural resources, Canada became a self-governing dominion in 1867 while retaining ties to the British crown. Economically and technologically the nation has developed in parallel with the US, its neighbor to the south across an unfortified border. Canada's paramount political problem is meeting public demands for quality improvements in health care and education services after a decade of budget cuts. The issue of reconciling Quebec's francophone heritage with the majority anglophone Canadian population has moved to the back burner in recent years; support for separatism abated after the Quebec government's referendum on independence failed to pass in October of 1995.

We packed up quick in the morning and headed to Gorge Creek Trail, which is a 6.5km one way trail with the rating of difficult. At the beginning we were like “this trail isn’t very difficult”, then we started going up and down all sorts of stairs in and out of the gorge, and we quickly changed our minds. Check out the pic of Mel’s, it’s red as a tomato from the hike. It was a tough trail and it was super hot and humid. Great though! After the trail we were so hot and nasty and sweaty we desperately need [View Full Entry]

We headed back to Winnipeg, because it was on our way to our next stop, Riding Mountain National Park. So we took the opportunity to stop at the Mint and take a tour. We learned how coins are made, which is really amazing how many steps it takes. It was cool to learn that they also make coins for 100 other countries! It was also cool to learn that a loonie only costs 11 cents to make and penny is now costing less than 1 cent to make… crazy eh!. We had the rare opportunity to hold a solid gold bar!!
