P1050685The Winnipeg Mint (Where they make our Coins)
We headed back to Winnipeg, because it was on our way to our next stop, Riding Mountain National Park. So we took the opportunity to stop at the Mint and take a tour. We learned how coins are made, which is really amazing how many steps it takes. It was cool to learn that they also make coins for 100 other countries! It was also cool to learn that a loonie only costs 11 cents to make and penny is now costing less than 1 cent to make… crazy eh!. We had the rare opportunity to hold a solid gold bar!! It weighed about 35lbs, but we forgot how much it is worth… definitely a buttload! The security guard wasn’t to friendly when Nigel tried to take off with it… just kidding!
Riding Mountain was a decent drive away, about 5 hours, and we arrive around 5 and set up tent and ate. We ended up staying in the “touristy” area, which was strange because it was a national park with all sorts of stores and cottages in it. We tried to do a bike trail but it was pretty poorly signed, so we ended up just biking around Clear
lake, which was pretty. The mosquitoes were pretty ridiculous, and the firepit thing was up high, so we didn’t like it and wen’t in the tent and played Phase 10 (a card game we like). Nigel won!!
