Niché ... read more

We spent a lovely day viewing our front yard on the water. I made the stuffing using a special honey that was produced on the UBC farm in Vancouver and provided to me by one of my customers. A very special honey with a very special flavour. We then sat to table with Scott and Catherine before they drove off with the Vibe. One fewer cars is good for us and one more car for a dad and daughter road trip is good for them! Meanwhile, we look back on the year. I'm very thankful for the many blessings I have received this year.... read more

Today is the day – we are on our way! It occurred to me at some point that this is also the first anniversary of my Mom’s passing. We were so close, she and I, and I miss her more than I can say, but I think that us leaving on this anniversary is more than a coincidence. Mom loved adventure and travel, was ever curious and full of fun. She loved people and when she entered a room full of strangers, they were friends by the time she left. That is what this trip is all about – meeting new friends and visiting old ones. She will be part of this journey too for I carry her in my heart always. Today we catch the ferry from our beloved Vancouver Island to mainland Canada. I ... read more

After six months of planning, the time is almost here. We will begin our cross-Canada tour on July 29, making stops in every one of our wonderful and diverse provinces, and return home to Nanaimo, BC on October 11, 2015. What spurred this trip? Many things – love of adventure and travel, hoping for a better understanding of the world around us, learning from and laughing with the people we meet, the excitement of finally seeing this incredible, vast country from end to end, a wedding, a family reunion, seeing friends and family. But what got the fire really burning was the fact that Tim and I have lost four very important people in our lives over the last five years. It hit us profoundly that life is short and we need to live now, enjoy ... read more

We drove out of Hope at 9am - a civilized hour in my humble opinion, as compared to a few of the very early starts on the prairies. The toughest part of getting ready turned out to be kitty cat. She just would not be coaxed into her carrier anymore. In the end, we had to angle the carrier so that the opening was steep enough that she could not easily climb out before we quickly closed the cage door on her. Then off into the car. Once in the car and driving, she would not come out of the carrier at all. I think she was trying to punish us for this incessant driving lifestyle. As we drove past Chilliwack (photo 1), I was instantly transported to the late 1970's and their hits, Never the ... read more

Reunification starts today. Flying again, as if it were an ordinary trip, but a very exceptional thing will happen. In keeping with recent exceptional events, this photo shows the venue of my first public performance. Everything is changing for the better.... read more

I've uncovered why my apartment seems so big. Originally, I thought it was because of the huge space and lack of inhabitants. In fact, it's because my phone book is so tiny! In other towns, the phone book is thin. In Nanaimo, the phone book is short and narrow! Meanwhile, I discovered a house with an address which reminds me of a Rush song. On this week's trip, I discovered a police presence at the airport. Why the man in the wheel chair was handcuffed and boarded my plane first, I'll never know. And I discovered why the long weekend traffic was so terrible - two motorcyclists broke down and had to be given a talking to by the police. All in one fun-filled week!... read more

What do Bryan Adams and I have in common? Our guitar tech. Richard is amazing. After a trip out east, I discovered that my beloved "log" had two damaged tuning machines: one bent, the other broken off. Korg Canada would not, could not, sell me replacements. But Richard looked at it and ground a spare to create a new machine. Cheers to Richard, my (and Bryan Adams') guitar tech.... read more

Flying off to my old home city today. In the warmth of my island paradise, where the palm trees dance in the breeze, and the caravans drive past the airport, it struck me hard: I am an islander at heart. No more for me, the big city life. No more the traffic noise outside my apartment window. No more neighbours shouting, playing drums, moving furniture at 3am. Driving to the hotel in my former home city, I almost turned off at 149 Street! Old habits die hard. A new life awaits me in seven weeks!... read more
