Today is the day – we are on our way! It occurred to me at some point that this is also the first anniversary of my Mom’s passing. We were so close, she and I, and I miss her more than I can say, but I think that us leaving on this anniversary is more than a coincidence. Mom loved adventure and travel, was ever curious and full of fun. She loved people and when she entered a room full of strangers, they were friends by the time she left. That is what this trip is all about – meeting new friends and visiting old ones. She will be part of this journey too for I carry her in my heart always.
Today we catch the ferry from our beloved Vancouver Island to mainland Canada. I know we’ll miss our island – its wild beauty, its free spirit, its awesome people . It will be a beacon, always calling us home. But first, we must explore!
Tonight we stay with my daughter Adrienne in Vancouver. Get fed, bed and in the morning, say goodbye until October 11
th. What lies ahead? Our trip is uber-planned, organized and spreadsheeted (thanks Tim), but I think it’s the unexpected that we will remember most. Bring it on, Canada, we’re ready for ya, eh? ♥
