The time has come. I am in the process of canceling my Dubai visa and officially moving to Qatar. How do I feel about this? Well, you all know that I absolutely love love love Dubai. But I will be happy to finally have a place to call home. Again. I think that maybe once I can officially settle down in Doha, I will feel more at home and happy. I don't know why, but I still basically have the mentality of living out of a suitcase. I try not to buy too much. And I haven't even hung my pictures! As mentioned before, my life revolves around work here, but now it is starting to get exciting. Qatar is hosting the 2022 World Cup and they have a "2030 Vision" for countrywide improvements. Things are now starting to kick into high gear and our office is growing everyday. Currently, I am managing the engineering group here in our office. It is a very busy job because on top of managing, I am also the only engineer, so I am responsible for management, engineering analysis, all reporting, geologic oversight, meetings and engineering site inspections. I am in desperate need for help, so that also means I spend part of my week recruiting people. ไม่ได้มาอัพตั้งเจ็ดวัน ไม่ได้ไปไหน อยู่โดฮานี่แหละครับ เพราะหลังจากที่กลับมาจาก Manila วันนั้น ก็ตามด้วย recurrent สี่วัน ผ่านไปแล้วเรียบร้อย มีหลายสิ่งหลายอย่างที่เปลี่ยนไปมากๆ แต่ที่น่าสนใจมากที่สุดคือมีเรื่องใหม่แทรกเข้ามาซึ่งก็คือ การทำ NITES briefing and cabin preparation before crash lading เนื่องจากที่ผ่านมาไม่นานมานี้ก็มีเหตุการณ์ที่ไม่คาดคิดเกิดขึ้นกับ Asiana Airlines และประกอบกับของเราเองก็มีหนึ่งเหตุการณ์ ทุกคนปลอดภัย ไม่มีแม้แต่บาเจ็บ ทางสายการบินเราเลยตระหนักถึงการรับมือกับสถานการณ์ ถ้าเกิดขึ้นจริง เพราะที่ผ่านมาก็แค่เรียนตามตำรา แต่ recurrent ปีนี้ ให้ฝึกทำจริง ก็ทำให้ตื่นจากอาการง่วงในห้องเรียนได้เป็นอย่างดี หลังจาก recurrent มีสี่วันหยุด อยู่บ้านกับเพื่อนๆ ตามประสาคนโสด อิอิ เมื่อวานอยู่กันครบแทบทุกคน กิจกรรมสันทนาการคิดเลขเร็วก็เกิดขึ้นตามธรรมเนียม (ไม่บอก ว่าเล่นไรกัน อิอิ) สำหรับเมนูพิเศษคือ ขนมจีนน้ำเงี้ยว ที่พิเศษคือมีดอกงิ้วด้วย สั่งตรงมาจากเจียงใหม่เจ้า พักร้... read more

Qatar in June = HOT. Since returning from my excellent break in Turkey, I went full work mode and tried to finish up some major projects that had been left dangling. The best was finishing the project that I was initially brought to Qatar for - 8 months, multiple delays, 35 weekly meetings, 4 presentations, 15 professional staff and countless support staff, and 1770 pages of reports later: We're done! Yay! Now I'm trying to catch up on the smaller projects that are yelling at me literally every day, thinking that they are the most important project in the world. Our next stop is Doha, Qatar (pronounced “cutter” by most) and Abdul is our guide. By the way, most of the guides are expats from other countries as few local Emeriti’s do that kind of work. The first excursion stop is to the Souq Waqif, a shopping bazaar established in 1847. You can bargain up to 20% off for the spices, foods and other traded items available, we’re told. This country has 2.5 million people with 200,000 native citizens. Only Qatar citizens may own property permanently with foreigners not owning land and owning housing for up to 99 years at which time it’s returned to the government.
