The Dead Sea is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy! This is the thought that came to mind as I laughed out loud to myself yesterday when first experiencing the phenomenon of floating in the Dead Sea. Truly one of the most relaxing experiences I have ever had. In the Gospels, there is an allusion to the disappointment of some that Jesus is not the revolutionary Messiah that would restore the Davidic kingdom. Within 40 years of life of Jesus, the first Jewish revolt against the Romans led to the burning of Jerusalem and the destruction of the Temple in 70 AD. The bus driver dumps me at the bus stop near Kibbutz Ein Gedi. Once again, I arrive with only vague directions to my host's place, so I proceed as usual and try to find somebody who lets me use their mobile phone. It's already past sunset, and there's not many people out and about, but I find a little supermarket that's still open. I ask the cashier if he knows Ofer, to which he replies: "Yeah, of course, he's my friend! Wait, I'll call him." When I caught the number 60 bus headed south from Be'er Sheva, there was just enough sunlight left in the sky to know that I was headed towards a place unlike anywhere I had ever been...
