This is particularly the case in the northern mountains, which are the main tourist attraction in the country. Up there, the people barely consider themselves Pakistani, and Islamabad seems a long way... | However, since this is based simply on my own 7 weeks experience there, perhaps it's better for eveyone to just use their own judgement. Personally, I would go to Pakistan tomorrow if I could. 2Brothers3Continents Claudio e Fernando Post Count: 10 Msg: #4 261 days ago, November 7th 2007 | I just left Pakistan about a month ago! Its hard to not recomend the country even with all this instability. I have been there a month and crosses from south to north. The country for the tourist is well divided in Two: | The Northern areas: Very peaceful, easy to travel and very dificult to happen anything due to the political instability. People of the north are not as politicaly active and religious as the other parts of the country. South and Center areas (up to Islamabad): This is the part of the country that are really afected by the political instability. Many regions are not recomended to tourists and most of the public demontrations and killings happens there. So its best avoided during these elections/crisis period. And after all, the north big moutains are much nicer than the desert south. Mell Mel Fla Post Count: 2723 Msg: #5 260 days ago, November 8th 2007 | While I was in Iran a couple of weeks ago, I met some people who had just travelled accross Pakistan to Iran. | They said Pakistan is a pretty rough place to travel. People in villages were throwing stones at them because they thought they are American. Others were asking if they are muslim and then getting aggressive because they were not. They seem to take religion very very seriously. Some Pakistani guards at the border asked them to smuggle a few kilos of marijuana into Iran. They said in a lot of places they went there were no women on the streets and a lot of men had guns. etc etc etc A bit off putting. :( Mell Mel Fla Post Count: 2723 Msg: #6 260 days ago, November 8th 2007 | Would somebody explain to me what is the difference between a declared and an undeclared nuclear state. | Who do they declare to? Mell Ali Ali Watters Post Count: 2733 Msg: #7 259 days ago, November 9th 2007 | Undeclared: eg. Israel - everyone knows that they have nukes - but they don't acknowledge this. | Mell Mel Fla Post Count: 2723 Msg: #8 259 days ago, November 9th 2007 | Are there no consequences to not acknowledging it? | I though all countries have to allow the UN commission in to check all their nuclear activies. :S It is amazing that Iran allowed the checks if countries dont have to. CanadianViking Josh N Post Count: 35 Msg: #9 256 days ago, November 12th 2007 | Iran allowed it because they knew that the Americans would blow them to kingdom come if they didn't. | And the Israeli nuclear program is VERY top secret. I doubt the UN could find anything there if they tried. Mell Mel Fla Post Count: 2723 Msg: #10 252 days ago, November 16th 2007 | I presume the reason the UN want every country to declare their weapons is because some time in the future the UN will ask for all countries to agree to hand over the weapons to rid the world of the threat of nuclear war. If Isreal does not consent to declare exactly what they are holding the date when disarmament can happen will be further away. At least some progress is being made with Iran even if it is not for the right reasons(meaning that they are doing it out of fear, rather than a desire for a world without war). | [Edited: 10:37 - Mell ] Number of Users: 6 | Number of Posts: 10 | |||||||||||||||||||
