Can I get a visa at the border to Vic Falls? Is it still safe to visit Zimbabwe with the election comming up tomorrow(27th June 2008)?

I am getting mixed messages about whether I need a visa ahead of time for entry to Zimbabwe at Vic Falls. I am on a tour and will be there for 2 days and am flying out on Air Zimbabwe stopping in Harare just to change planes before returning to S. Africa. Lots of visa companies want me to do it from here-USA. But do I really need to send off my passport? Has anyone visited recently?

I'm going there in August. And as far as my info goes, get it there will be a lot more efficient It may take you a little more time at the border, but will end up a lot cheaper. This is the way most tourist are doing these days...same apply for Zambia. You may need a double entry if you plan to cross over.

Hi, visas always seem to cause confusion! Especially in Zimbabwe it can be hard to find answers!

<snip>

That said, in short, most western developed countries require a visa obtainable from the airport, in addition to a passport.

Hope that helps! Happy travels.

Hello Mary-Ellen :)

Is it still safe to visit Zimbabwe with the election comming up tomorrow?
Are they giving out tourist visas at all now? All the foreign NGOs and aid workers have already been evicted from the country.

I would not go in the capital, but staying around Niagara Falls is another thing. Don;t forget, not tourism means no jobs for the locals....

As it turns out I have to fly out of Livingston due to plane cancellations on Air Zimbabwe. So not only do i need a visa for Zim because as of now we are staying in Vic Falls, but I've heard I need a $135 visa for Zambia just to cross the border to fly out of Livingston. anyone know for sure?
I'm hoping my tour switches to Zambia side of the Falls. but I'm not getting there until Aug. 24 so hopefully the election mess will be over?

I'm flying in and out from Zambia....and staying on the Zimbabwe side. I haven't heard 135usd for a visa. If you are a US citizen it is possible. Many countries reciprocate on visa fees, and as US is charging more than anybody else, US citizen are often charged more than other for visa.

There are $50-billion notes now in circulation, and even they aren't worth more than a few U.S. dollars each.

The scope of Zimbabwe's economic disaster is mind-boggling. It's a place with 80-per-cent unemployment, incalculable inflation - some estimates put it near 5 million per cent - and a worthless currency.

Despite increasing international pressure on President Robert Mugabe, the sources warned that political violence is likely to intensify.

Is anyone travelling in Zimbabwe at the moment or do you know anybody who is travelling there? If so, how is the political situation effecting tourism? Are tourist visas easy to get at the moment? Is it safe to travel there in your opinion?
