we saw the Dancing Horses in Jerez. Was impressive. A bit pricey, but neat to have seen nonetheless.

Jerez, Cordoba...and one less day?!?!

Well, first I am not going to start with pictures because I am on a computer as old as the hills in the hotel we are staying at in Cordoba...it has no USB drive, AND it cost about 1.40 per 20 minutes...crazy.

Let me start with some interesting thoughts that Mom and I have discovered while travelling:

*Make sure to bring plenty of ziplock bags...they are good for washing clothes, storing dirty clothes, plugging the sink so you can wash clothes...OR having a bag in your purse where you hide all the bread that they give you at a meal and then feed to the birds later. Please do not use the same bag for all four purposes...that would be gross. 😊

*It is a good thing to try the city bus. Just hop on one and stay on it for a round...You get to see all sorts of neat things, bad neighborhoods, the country side...and before you know it almost 2 hours have passed through your day!! (No joke, we had NO idea it was going to take so long!) It was good though to know we WEREN´T going to

how cool is this picture!
take the bus to the train station. 😊

*Make sure to bring a calendar with you that has the days marked off. If not, you may end up in a hotel asking for three nights...discussing it with the man at the desk, him saying so you mean two nights...argue with him for three, then he says you want to leave monday though right?, you say yes...then he says...well that is two nights because it is Saturday....WHAT?!?! We definitely lost a day...We mark it back to Sevilla actually. How bad is that!?!

Well, Jerez was a cute little town. We ended up staying Friday there (though we thought it was Thursday). We went to see a horse show and then took a tour of a Sherry Bodega. It is interesting how they make sherry. We then took a tour of the city on a city bus...oh man was that ever interesting. It was a LONG ride. There are no bathrooms on the city bus by the way, and when you have no idea where you are it is best to stay on the bus. Nuf said. 😊

Jerez is cute and worth a visit. It is a

we weren´t allowed to take pictures of the show, so here is a horse. :)
good home base for Cadiz if you want to save a bit of money. I will say though it isn´t as tourist friendly and you are going to see a little bit more authentic Spain there. The population is definitely older. They are wonderful though. It is a big humid there, but cooler than the rest of Andalusia. The pension we stayed at was Valeria. It was nice. You basically are in their home with them. The dueña of the house is nice. We spend Friday night talking with everyone for a while. That was interesting to be more part of the home.

We then headed our way to Cordoba. We took the Ave train, which is the fast train. I know that the bus tends to be cheaper, but for a few more euro on the train we had lots of leg room, and the trip was cut in half because of the Ave.

We got to Cordoba a little early to search for a hotel so we decided to grab some coffee and figure our way around. We then walked a little ways, saw a little 2 star hotel (Hotel Riviera) and decided to ask if

here is the bodega of sherry in american oak. The ones on the bottom are the oldest, but they filter through from the top...newest on top, oldest on bottom
they knew where we could find a place taht was at least 30-40 a night...and they were 35, so, we stayed. We have a better bathroom than Jerez and are still in the center of town.

We went to see the Mezquita-Cathedral which is a cathedral that was once a mosque. It is sort of neat to see the combination of the two. When I get to a better computer I will put the pictures up on this blog. We happened to run into a building that was having a flamenco show that night and bought tickets. For 20euro we were able to see some national prize winners, Cristina, Raphael and another guy. They were amazing! The guy we bought our ticket from became our friend. He was making fun of Texans and their accents because he couldnt understand them. (Sorry Texans!) He was a riot!

Today (Sunday...) we will be walking around Cordoba to relax and see a few more sights and maybe do some shopping. We have done absolutely NO shopping...which really is ok. We have pictures.

Monday we should be able to get online without a problem so I should be able to give
GrapesGrapesGrapes

these grapes are common in jerez, but are NOT used to make sherry. our guide was IMPLICIT about this. :) She was cute, but had a hard accent to understand in English
a better update. Talk to you soon!

we got some yummy tapas. Nice cheeses, and iberian hams! SO yummy. If you come to spain you have to have Iberian ham with Manchego cheese.

The train station. I have to say, riding the train...though at times a bit more expensive is a lot easier to travel. Things are a bit more precise than with the bus.

one of the central plazas in Cordoba. It was close to the hotel. mom liked to feed the pigeons. at one point we got icecream, i didnt want my shell so i threw it on the ground...and the heavens exploded with pigeons. They were so brave they ate what was stuck to the bottom of my shoe!!

what is neat about Cordoba is you can find Roman ruins all over the place. If you walk around you will see where they have found new ruins and are excavating them!

it is known for its arches. It still has the old mosque arches, and smack in the center and around the edges are the typical makings of a cathedral

part of what the Cathedral wanted to do was maintain the artistry of the Mosque. It is impressive.
