MARCH 16th Routine has set in today. Wake up, free breakfast, bus to Swansea University, etc. Myself, Micheal, and Derek took a train ride to the Swansea projects. We filmed some of the not so flattering aspects of Swansea. It was really crazy to see how run down some of these areas were. Swansea has these really rich beautiful areas, and then tucked away there are many ghettos. We went to a youth organization associated with Discovery and filmed some interviews and B-roll there. When we hopped back onto the train, we did not have a ride waiting for us... so we decided to explore the city. The city square was really cool. It reminded me of a relaxed version of a shopping square you might see in New York City. We spent a lot of ... read more

Swansea - pronounced "Swonz-ee" - is a coastal city and county in Wales. Swansea is in the historic county boundaries of Glamorgan. Situated on the sandy South West Wales coast, the county area includes the Gower Peninsula and the Lliw uplands. . . And today we got to see much more than we expected. The day started well, we met more of the SYSHP kids and got to see the hostel that they are staying in. We shot the first 4 interviews, which were really good. The kids are very nice and respectful. Afterwards we went to the City Central to eat lunch. Several of us had McDonalds. . Yes we flew all the way here to eat McDonalds and I’m pretty sure it was worse than the McDonalds in the U.S. The City Central was ... read more

Hello loves! Greetings from Swansea Wales where the sun has been shining for 3 days in a row (there may have been some cloud cover but not to much). Today our group split up ( :( ) to meet with and start filming our clients. The Discovery group left shortly after breakfast but our group didn't have anything planned until 3. So we made great use of our time and headed farther into Mumbles to exchange some currency and do some shopping. (we are actually not staying in Swansea we are staying in Mumbles which is essentially like a district of Swansea). Me, Megan, Nicole and our fearless leader Mark Scott walked around, looking through stores and such while the guys in our group went to Joe's and bought the last of the "good" premade sandwiches. ... read more

MARCH 15th Today we woke up at 8 a.m. Wales time. We indulged in the free continental breakfast, at the Norton House. (FUN FACT) - black pudding sounds much tastier than it really is. After eating, my group caught a bus to Swansea University. We met with Discovery, and finalized our idea for the non-profit video. Everyone we met at the university were very kind and willing to help us. Welsh people are some of the nicest people I think I have ever met. We spent the entire day filming video. In the evening we caught a bus back to the Norton House. We ate some dinner, got cleaned up, and went out to some pubs. The evening was filled with GLOWSTICKS! I noticed that in Swansea, the music they listen to is most of the ... read more

My group got the privilege of relaxing all morning as we are waiting for 2pm to arrive. Taylor, Nicole, Mark, and myself headed into Mumbles to do some exploring and shopping. They have a store called Fat Face which is basically the same thing as the Buckle. Same prices and same clothing. We went back to meet the guys at the hotel so we could get on the bus to meet our clients. We got off the bus on Bryn by the rugby field. We walked about 2 miles to Bryn Rd looking for Bryn House. Turns out Bryn House isn't on Bryn Rd. or anywhere near Bryn Rd. We ended up calling the office and some SYSHP workers came to our rescue. We were 30 minutes late to meet the kids at their cooking class, ... read more

We began today on a bus and thanks to Dr. Nelson we got our weekly exercise in finding our way around the University. After giving ourselves our own tour of the campus we found where we were supposed to be. We were given the grand (sort of) tour of Swansea University and after many weeks of Facebook messages we finally met the infamous Eliot Miller. Eliot previously came to UCO as an exchange student a year ago so we turned the tables and came to his stomping grounds. We then went to meet our tour guide of the day, Pat, who took us all over Gower. Our first stop was Gower Beach, which was my favorite part because I have never been to the ocean before. Pat told us many stories about the homes that looked ... read more

MARCH 14th Today we woke up at about 8 a.m. We ate our free continental breakfast, and we headed out to Swansea University. We spent some of the day touring the University. We then took a bus tour of Swansea. The sights we got to see were amazing. We went to this amazing spot on the beach. A few of us climbed a big rock, that took us to a better view. We also went to this cliff that showed an amazing view of the whole beach and ocean. There were mountain goats climbing all over the place. The cliff was really high. We threw some rocks off the edge, and it took them a good 5 to 10 seconds to hit the water. I posted a few photos Taylor took of what we saw. That ... read more

Posting from the now freezing U.K. at about 11:55pm here. One word. WOW! This country is beyond beautiful! I have never seen anything like it. I still can't believe I'm actually here and looking at this place with my own eyes. We got a grand tour of our part of the Gower Peninsula where we are staying. Our day started bright and early with a nice Welsh breakfast. I had scrambled eggs and toast with raspberry jam (they say jam here, you ask for jelly and your getting a dish of jello gelatin) they toast and jam was delicious, the eggs were kind of mushy but nothing pepper couldn't fix. Yes, Taylor ate Welsh food and LIKED IT! After breakfast we attempted to catch our first bus and head to Swansea University to meet with the ... read more

MARCH 13th Today we arrived in Swansea. Our bus took us straight to the Norton House. The Norton House was nice! Myself and three other guys shared an apartment. The apartment had two rooms, which meant that we each had to share a room with someone else. I was the first (and last)person to take a hot shower. At first we thought I just used up all of the hot water, we later realized that the hot water was broken. Because of the water situation, the Norton House gave us 3 additional rooms, which meant we all got to have our own room!!! This was excellent news! A few of us decided to walk around Swansea. Swansea is a beautiful place! The beach was so nice. There were hundreds of people walking up and down the ... read more

Posting from the U.K. at about 2:00 pm here. . After 2 endless plane rides and a "2 hour" more like 4 hour bus ride we are here at our hotel in Swansea! I cannot believe I have been up for over 24 hours and most of it, if not all of it, was travel time. England was beautiful, even though it was raining. I can't wait till we go back to London at the end of the week. Wales is twice as pretty as England. The little towns look they came straight out of a movie! Somehow we were early to our hotel so my room was not ready, it still had to be cleaned. So instead of showering and changing like I really need to, me and my friend Michael took a walk down ... read more
