We had arranged with Laura for breakfast at 8:00. Grandma, Gail and I were there two minutes early. The kids took their sweet time. No problem though because Laura was ready for us and quite happy to put together almost anything we wanted for breakfast. She had printed menus which allowed Tyler and I to order almost everything on the list. Once again we opted for the full Scottish breakfast which gave us bacon, eggs, sausage ( from a local specialty butcher), hash browns, baked beans and toast. I added a broiled tomato and Tyler, really getting into the whole Scottish thing, ordered haggis again. I didn't think it tasted nearly as badly as it sounds ( sheep's 'pluck' , minced with onion, oatmeal, suet, spices, and salt, mixed with stock, and traditionally simmered in the ... read more

We ended up in Edinburgh after my last blog. When we arrived we went to our hotel and rested for a bit. We then made our way up to the Royal Mile, which is the road that connects Edinburgh Castle to Holyrood House, the palace currently used by the Queen on visits to Edinburgh. Both attractions are available for tours and I would highly recommend them. In between both attractions are many pubs, restaurants and other stores, generally guided for tourists, although you can find some locals. We walked up and down both ends of the Mile before my parents were tired and decided to go to bed around six. I, however, was not yet tired, so I decided to watch some local TV. The shows that I found myself gravitating towards were comedy shows on ... read more

Annnnnyway... :p So after the last one, I met Andy and we went for a daunder, placed in a playpark :D I did the monkey bars!! And we got a Big Al at fergburger... damn, we halved it and it was still massive!! Got his car, then he drove me to the airport, which was awesome. Went through, and kaked myself cuz they announced me over the tannoy to see a member of security - turns ... read more

Our full day of sight seeing on the Coach today was enjoyable (sitting). Our first stop was the town of Aberfoyle where the Scottish Wool Mill shop does a brisk business. I bought 2 wool plad scarves for myself. Our guide on the coach gave us lots of historic background while we viewed scenery that was great. We ate our box lunches at lovely senic David Marshall Park. A cottage there (perhaps the caretaker's ?) had a beautiful garden that was carefully tended. I couldn't resist taking some pictures. Our next stop was Stirling - the town and the castle. The Castle was very impressive and we could see how, this was once a walled community (in Medieval times) Robert the Bruce was the Scottish king who led the Scots to victory in the battle for ... read more

Wednesday 8th July More Scottish castles and monuments and a unique piece of machinery After a day of staying in the city yesterday we decided to take a road trip today and head for Stirling to take in the castle and William Wallace memorial with a stop at Falkirk on the way. We had moved RR back to a parking space across the road from the flat that became free after 5.30pm yesterday but we still had to be alert by 8.30am this morning to put some money in the meter before the wardens started their round. And again as I went out just after 8.30am to do just that a warden was walking down the road towards me.They really are on the ball in this city!! Leaving the driving to Gretchen, I was again to be ... read more

On a random friday Andrew called me up and asked me to meet all the guys in Stirling the next day. Andrew promised me that there would be great sites and an amazing castle.....so obviously I went. It was really fun to see the guys again after sooo long and I got to meet Damon's friends from SB: Dan, Alex and Courtney. We first went to the William Wallace monument. There is quite a hike up to the monument and quite a hike to reach the top of the monument. The monument was basically a tower with rooms that explained what he did etc. One of my favorite parts was seeing his massive sword (however I found out later that it wasn't even the real thing). The best part, by far, was the top of the ... read more

Stirling Castle I had the arm brace on for 4 hours and I woke up in the middle of the night with my hand totally numb - it really hurts! We had continental breakfast this morning and headed right out to Stirling Castle which is only about a half mile up the hill from the Golden Lion Hotel. The castle is built on a high rocky hill and kind of reminds me a bit of the hill of the Acropolis in Athens. The first mention of the castle was between 1107 and 1115. It was a royal castle. We got there right when the castle opened and at first pretty much had the place to ourselves. While we waited the few minutes for the gates to open there was a beautiful rainbow visible just to the ... read more

So, I didn't sleep last night. At all. I read almost an entire book that mom sent with me and called Jay a few times. I tossed and turned a bit and then gave up on sleeping. So, now it is 7:22 Thursday night and the last night I slept was Monday night. I am a bit delirious, but doing ok. I went to school today, on no sleep, and met almost all of my "pupils". This made me very excited because they are all, at this point, just so cute and interesting. They really do not seem much different from my students in Pine Bush except for the fact that they wear uniforms and have accents. And after a while, I actually stopped noticing the accent as much. After school, Kirsty was determined to keep ... read more
