The big, black pot from where all the magic portions where churned by the little wizards of Hogwarts school in Harry Potter. Yes, I visited the Lacock abbey which was the site for this magical film shooting. Pride and Prejudice, The other Bolyen girl, Fantastic beasts, Harry Potter etc were filmed in Lacock and in the surrounding little village, now preserved by National Heritage Trust of England. "It is our choices, Harry that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities"- J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter. It was a splendid choice to visit Lacock from Swindon by changing two buses ( approximately 2 hours) on a week day because of good bus service and sunny weather. I observed the the pleasant countryside of Calne, Royal Wootton village and others, all once belonged to the old wool ... read more

Journey between Chippenham and Reybridge via Lacock On 7 July, we took the train to Chippenham, and reached there in the lunch time. The travel line webpage misled us to wait at the wrong bus stop. One of the ladies on the street advised us to go the bus terminal by the riverside. We found the bus timetable, which was the same as the one we had printed from the Internet. As a result of the change and confusion, we missed the 12:57 bus. we had a picnic lunch by the river. Mark and I remembered walking along the river, as a part of the suggested walking course, when we visited Chippenham before. The single Decker bus, which would go to Lacock, came just after 2pm, and we arrived at Lacock at 2:30. We remembered the ... read more

A bank (public) holiday yesterday and James suggested to go to Cheddar Gorge on his motorbike - a new yamaha R1 that he is soooooo proud of. This perhaps was just my third bike trip on the R1. Though until last year I was a novice as far as superbikes were concerned - now I am always happy to be a pillion and go places! It gives you a sense of freedom and for me as a pillion - lots of thinking time and the freedom to enjoy the scenery. Everytime that I am on the bike, I seem to spot things that I haven't seen before even if I might have passed by the same area several other times in the car. The trip from Melksham (near Lacock) to Cheddar took about 90 mins. The ... read more

Off to Shakespeare country, but first a detour to the village of Lacock. Initially the attraction was the Fox Talbot Museum, but Lacock is a charming village. For me a discovered gem, because I had no knowledge of its existence before I went to Bath. Dating back to the 13th century it has many lime washed, half-timbered and stone houses. Because of its picturesque charm it is often used as a set for films and television. The television series Jane Austen WILL be filmed here in 1995. First area specially visited was the cemetery to see the grave of William Henry Fox Talbot (1800 - 1877). It is marked by a very prominent grave stone. Talbot is most noted for the invention of negative/positive photography. He also made contributions to mathematics, optics, astronomy, archeology and had ... read more
