September 8 – Saturday – Coventry Today we went to Royal Leanington Spa and did a little shopping, checked out the Jephson Gardens there, and also went to a food festival they were having. I ate half of a sandwich Phil gave me which I’m not quite sure what was in it. It was quite tasty. For supper tonight Phil fixed up seafood chowder AND beef stew. So we were well fed for sure. September 09 – Sunday I used as a rest day and to prepare for my trip back. I had bought a ticket on Virgin Trains from Rugby Station near Coventry to Holyhead Station. The train ticket cost £24.40 to Holyhead via Crewe. I had bought a ticket on the Stena Adventurer from Holyhead to Dublin Port for £28.00. From Dublin port the ... read more

September 7, Friday – Coventry Today was my regroup and refit day in preparation for jumping the puddle. I got all my clothes washed and caught up my bookings for the trip to Ireland, and caught up my notebooks. Con fixed us a bacon sandwich for breakfast and we pretty much just caught up on things till Phil came home. Then we loaded up in the car and went to look at the locks on a nearby canal. It was really a beautiful day and we had a really good time. After exploring the locks we ate some fish and chips at a nearby restaurant and then checked out a nearby castle. All in all a fun day.... read more

Thursday September 6 – Coventry Today Con took me to the train station in Coventry and I bought a ticket for Monday the 10th for the train which will take me from Rugby station near Coventry to Holy Head to catch the ferry to Ireland. It will leave Monday morning at 9AM and I will go from Rugby to Crewe. There I will transfer to the train from Crewe to Holy Head. I have been allowed a full 11 minutes to go from one end of the station to the other to transfer trains so that is certainly plenty of time. When I get to Holy Head I will catch the ferry across the Irish Sea to Ireland. I will disembark in Dun Laoghaire and then will take the train to Connolly Station in Dublin and ... read more

September 5 Wednesday – Coventry - Wednesday I took the tube over to Victoria Station, and walked over to the Victoria Bus Station and took the bus from Victoria Station bus terminal to the bus station in Coventry. It was an uneventful trip and I called my cousins when I arrived at the bus station in Coventry and my cousins came to get me. We went to the house and visited a bit and then they showed me my room. It was up one seriously long and steep set of stairs when you consider I had to carry a suitcase up it but as they say what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger so it didn’t kill me so I guess I am stronger. After I got settled in we had some tea and then my ... read more

……….Kingswinford, in the West Midlands in the borough of Dudley and a small town that even has a mention in the Domesday Book and the name Kingswinford is derivative from a Ford for the Kings Swine. Leaving the bulk of our luggage with Gary and Karen, we throw a few things for an overnight stay into a couple of Marks and Spencer carrier bags, classy luggage I know, but it was so much easier than lugging our huge cases around with us! We head off from Tamworth early afternoon, and I hate to say it they did lend us a sat nav, in the absence of having a map and we really needed a steer on where to go, until now I have been relying on Google Maps on my Iphone, which I have to say ... read more

Cadbury World! The home of some of the greatest chocolate in the world! It was like I had died and gone to chocoholic heaven. Candace and I went through the World @ Warwick group. We started out at Bourneville, the village created to house workers in the facotry. It was cute and we got some really good breakfast at a tiny little bakery. I really wish we had more of the little specialized shops back home. They are so much better than general grocery stores. The tour started off with little shows giving the factory's history. They were cute, but the general experience was definitely geared toward kids. This could be especially seen in the ride, Cadabra. It was like Small World at Disney, except it was creepy cacao beans instead of creepy children. They sounded ... read more

After the success of last year's event when my friends and I rode 460+ miles around Lithuania in 5.5 days, we thought we'd up the anti a little and aim for 500 miles in 5 days this year. On May 7th 2012 we will set off from Green Hall, Upes Gatve, Vilnius with the aim of cycling over 100 miles each day in a circuit of Lithuania until we return to Vilnius on the 11th. Our goal is to raise funds for the local charity, Rugute, who continue to do phenomenal work in supporting local children with a wide range of Oncological diseases. Having met many of their "Captains" last year, both during the ride and during the Island of Friends gathering that I attended in June 2011, I am determined to do all I can ... read more
