After my little warm up I was looking forward to starting into the real thing. Over the course of nine days I covered the section from Minehead to Clovelly. I was blessed with fantastic sunny weather. Almost dawn to dusk sunshine although it was chilly at night. It did get a little dull for the last couple of days and it only rained once and that was during the night. It's a very simple lifestyle. Walk, eat, sleep and enjoy the breathtaking scenery. It's also lovely chatting to people along the way and walking a while with some of them, from a few hundred yards to a few miles. Clovelly seemed a good place to take my leave of the SWCP. We decided to take a drive to Minehead. The weather has been pretty dismal (cool and cloudy) for the past couple of days, so we thought we'd head to the coast in search of sun! Ha! We did get a little there, but not much. It was a really pretty drive with winding roads that varied from just above sea level to over 1000'. It was about a 45-minute drive from our cottage. The beach front, in some areas, looked like a tourist spot with all the souvenir shops, gambling joints and eateries. There was also a small amusement park, which we chose not to pursue. :-) We chose to walk over to the harbor where the boats were grounded. I'm sure, on the weekends, that this place is pretty crowded with locals and tourists. I'm ... read more

I woke very early Sunday morning, and with very little to do before I cycled, I was off fairly early too. This worked in my favour at the start of the ride as the route was very quiet, unlike the return, but I had planned to have lunch in Plymouth, but I was back at the van by 1pm, so didn't bother. Being back early also meant I spent most of the afternoon sitting around. Which is something I'm beginning to realise about this trip. In my head, I would be cycling every day I wasn't driving, and for the most I have, but I have found that when the cycling Is finished I have nothing to do, except stare at Facebook or Strava (hence my data limit is almost up). Part of me wants to ... read more

Wooo Hooo, new National Park to explore with a weekend away in Exmoor ... land of stunning landscapes, wilderness and tranquility (yep I read the brochure!). As with most weekends it follows a well rehearsed schedule, run out of work, car, drive, eat, drink, laugh and hike, then do it all again before the drive home! This trip we had exclusive use of YHA Minehead (YHA rocks my world!) which is a couple of miles back from the sea, set up in the Exmoor hills, a lovely location, just watch those speed bumps, they'll take the exhaust pipe off (go very, very carefully). Nice location though. Saturday was a round hike from Bossington out along the rocky headlands up and down the craggy landscape of the Exmoor coast (recognised as a Heritage Coast in 1991). We ... read more
