I am not sure that we can attribute any day numbers to the blog at the moment, would it be the day number for the day we originally left the country or should we have day numbers for this particular trip? I shall ponder that thought. Our Friday night brought a visit with our friends Julian and Alison in West Winterslow, they own an old public house, long since converted to a lovely home, I could not be exact but their house is hundreds of years old, Andy used to motorcycle with Julian, and these guys were a planned visit in our schedule, before they went off on their own holidays. We arrived and after hugs and kisses just sat down and started the conversation as if we had never been away. Alison had cooked a ... read more

Looking out of the hotel window this morning we were greeted with our first rain since arriving in England. This surprised us, as although we have generally had cool cloudy weather with some promising days, there has been no rain. In the hotel dining room we enjoyed breakfast as “morning after” wedding guests appeared, feeling quite good but with the occasional ache in the foot and leg department. It was now time for farewells. This is always the hard part and we suppose this is the sign of having experienced a wonderful occasion the day before. Before we drove back to London we had to say farewell to our daughter at Romsey railway station because she was off to Wales to take part in opera master classes. On the road it seemed everyone was heading back ... read more

There were big sighs all round when the sun was trying to make an appearance but no hint of rain. The wedding service was in Bishopstoke, some distance from Romsey and so a very careful plan of action had been prepared to get everyone there on time. Our chauffeur for the day was also an usher and so we had no trouble getting there early. Those who arrived early had the task of preparing the church for the wedding as a ceremony had taken place earlier in the day. So, seats had to be reorganised, bouquets attached to seats and flowers placed on display to make sure the church was ready to receive the bridal party and guests. The church is of a Norman design and just over a hundred years old but the parish has ... read more

After a quiet morning preparing our wedding clothes we headed on a mid-afternoon drive to the wedding venue, Romsey, near the south coast city of Southampton. When we were planning our trip we decided it would be a very good idea to be in the UK for our daughter’s birthday. This year it coincided with our daughter’s brother-in-law’s wedding and we were invited. So with all our wedding clothes carefully packed in the car we headed out of town. It seemed as though everyone else had decided to head out of town at the same time. We were assured the traffic is often even busier. The rest of the drive south went relatively quickly although there seemed to be occasional slow periods as we passed off and on ramps that lead to other motorways or large ... read more

I'm awake now, we have been back to the house to collect the 2nd load of gear and there was much activity at the house, the new tenants seem to be getting on top of things. I feel like a grenade has gone off in my head space, and feel so out of sorts. When we left the house today I didn't really feel any emotion, which suprised me and its nice to be back with Len and Sarah at Pauncefoot house, even though it will only be for a short while. Today I am missing my beloved KTM, all the boys I regularly rode with are in Normandy, "Off Roading" we have both made many sacrifices for this adventure, I am sure with will both gain so much out of it. Onwards we march. Andy ... read more

Well, today is the day that we finally moved out of our house in Chandlers Ford, it has been a long time in the planning, yet all of a sudden it seemed to be upon us and the pressure was on to vacate and allow our tenants to move in. Although we had done a lot of packing, throwing away and selling in the previous months I was still shocked about how much we had left to do in the last couple of days, not to mention making sure that the house was perfectly clean for our tenants to move into. I even washed the towels and hung them on the washing line. Last night, Dad took the family out for a meal at the Balmoral (Nursling), it has been exceptionally difficult to get everyone together because ... read more

Sunday, June 8, 2008 Romsey, England The sun rises early in England in the summer. At about 5:30am, I rolled over in bed to a bright sky and assumed that I had overslept. Jackie was still asleep so I eased myself up to find my watch. That’s when I realized that Pete wasn’t kidding when he told us the night before that we’d have daylight by 3:30am. I jumped back in bed and returned to sleep. About 7:00am I was up again and went downstairs for coffee. Pete has fast internet service and Wi-Fi. But like most of us, he forgot his wireless password. It is fixed in his pc so he doesn’t need it when he logs on. I could connect to his signal but could not log in because of the security. So, we ... read more

Saturday, June 7, 2008 Amiens, France to Romsey, England Today we planned to cross the Chunnel into England. We had a reservation for 9:50am, but had to arrive at 9:20. By my calculation, we had about one and one-half hour drive from our hotel in Amiens. As we checked out, I complained about the state of the hotel. It was being renovated and we felt that they should have either closed the place or at least given us a big discount. So, the desk clerk gave us free breakfast. Wow! Free cereal and hot milk. Anyway, we walked a couple of blocks to the parking garage and got the heck out of Ameins. I think this city was location of war battles and a college. Nothing else is happening in Amiens. We were out of there. ... read more
