We remembered visiting Wimpole Hall, Royston near Cambridge several years ago. John & Mary took us there on 1 April 2015. Despite the cloudy weather, there were a lot of visitors to the Wimpole Estate. After lunch, we walked o the house. We remembered the red-brick façade and sizeable ground. We started looking round from the Entrance Hall. One of the ushers suggested for us to look at the illusionistic murals in the chapel from the balcony. There were a number of distinctive rooms on the ground floor – South Drawing Room, Long Gallery, Book Room, Red Room, Yellow Drawing Room, Saloon, Breakfast Room and Ground Dining Room. Wimpole Hall and its grounds, north of Royston, Cambridgeshire, are managed by the National Trust. Wimpole Hall The brick-fronted mansion was resided in by the Hardwicke family and Yorke family between 18th and 19th century, and was developed a grand country house during the above period. Hardwicke and Yorke family were wealthy people. They employed the well-known architects such as James Gibbs, John Soane, or Henry Kendall. Visitors can see elegant-looking Reception, Drawing Room, and Gallery with a series of artistic friezes, plasterwork in the ceilings, all of which were designed by the above architects. The highlights of the Georgian showrooms are Bathhouse, Book Room, and Yellow Drawing Room, all of which were designed by John Soane. Tim and I decided to give up our Sunday and do the Oxfam walk today, which as the name suggests is a walk to raise money for Oxfam. I know doing the walk doesn't really count as travelling but seeing as I am not going on holiday for a while I thought I would write a blog anyway! There has been a bit of a heatwave of late so we had an amazingly sunny day for our walk. It was 13 miles which was a nice distance. It took us 4.5 hours from start to finish including a bit of a sit down in the middle.
