Happy Halloween; today we are in port in Barcelona. We ALL are going on a tour together to Montserrat mountain. We drove for about an hour in to the mountains; we then boarded a train that goes practically straight up the mountain. It took us to the famous Montserrat Monastery, founded as a Benedictine Abbey during the 11th century. It is perched on a ledge hanging 2,400 feet above the Llogregat river. We were given a brief history and then on our own. A little black cat, looking like our 'Summer' came up to us meowing. She loved the people. We entered the monastery and Mass was in process. We sat down and even though it was in Spanish (I think~could it be Latin?), it was beautiful; we decided to stay for communion. Tourists were being rude and taking pictures even though there was a sign prohibiting it. As we got in line for communion, a sign said 'Communion is only for Catholics'. Well, I am not Catholic but a believer in Jesus Christ as my savior so it will not stop me from taking communion. I think God is pleased. We then left and went to another prayer room with
candles. We lit 4 candles: one for Annie, one for each of our sons. We could have lit a hundred! It felt very moving. The Monastery sits above the clouds and the views were absolutely stunning. It was beginning to drizzle and the clouds seemed to rise up. It's difficult to describe what only eyes can experience. I cannot upload any pictures from this Internet cafe so you will have to wait I get back and I will add pictures to all entries. Back down the mountain; Ken and I got dropped off at Las Ramblas boulevard. The rest of our group went back to the ship. It was raining pretty hard and the 'seedy' area seemed dirtier and darker than it normally is so after a few minutes, we got on the shuttle to return to the ship.
Tonight is Halloween and we started getting ready when we got back to the ship. Kenny is going to be a "Ozzie Osbourne" type rocker, me-I'm not sure what I was but it wasn't so good looking. I had a black wig (not my color), weird makeup and long black gloves, whatever...Annie and Henna were Tweedle dee and Tweedle dum. They
had spent some time on their costumes (thanks Ken Strzalka for the suspenders), Jack was a monk and Minnie a prostitute during Roman times. Bobbie and Larry did not dress up. We had fun at dinner, and taking pictures. Annie and Henna were a hit every place they went, especially because they were attached together with the suspenders.
Ken and I were tired and went to bed~ we had an early up in the am for excursion.
Annie and Henna stayed up for the party beginning at 10:30 pm. They were 'Stars"; they paraded all over the ship (a Halloween parade), people were asking for their autograph, touching them.
They won the contest . They were asked their room # and dreamed of free cruises in the morning. Goodnight
