Hello! I apologize for being SO terrible about updating my blog! When I first got back from spring break I had a new entry typed up and was ready to post it but I took too long to type it up so I was automatically logged out of the program so it completely wiped out all that I had! I was SO irritated haha but here I am about to update you. Last time I posted a blog I was saying that I was going to go hiking, well the weather was nice and we ended up going to the beach instead! At least I think that is what happened. The week before our spring break was totally hectic with tests right before we were heading out! On the bright side I went surfing for the ... read more

Hola! I must admit that I have been terrible with updating my blog, sorry! Nothing terribly exciting has been happening lately, just the normal routine: school, homework, hanging with friends, etc. Last weekend I mainly just hung out in Getxo/Bilbao and explored around here. The main area of exploration has been Santurzi which is on the other side of the river in comparison to Getxo, another area that I have been exploring has been Casco Viejo, basically just the old part of Bilbao. It's cool the stuff that you find just walking around here. As far as weekdays go I stay in most of the time because of homework. TABC is a teaching program (I don't know if I mentioned it in any past blogs) through USAC that allows the study abroad students to go into ... read more

Sorry for missing last week for the blog! It has been so crazy this past week and I didn't find the time to write another blog, so this one might be longer because of my fail haha. So last weekend was Carnivale which was SO much fun! A group of friends and I ventured to Rome, we stayed in an apartment because between the six of us it was cheaper and more convenient to do so. I didn't take pictures of the apartment but it was very nice, there were three bedrooms, one bathroom, a kitchen, and a living room; it was a bit small but rather perfect for the occasion. The people I was traveling with were very fun, despite a little bit of complaining from a few, but on what vacation do you not ... read more

¡Hola! It is crazy to think that I have been in Spain for almost a month now, where has time gone??? Nothing super exciting has happened yet but I will be Rome this upcoming weekend for Carnival so something fun is bound to happen! These first couple of weeks I have been happy exploring Bilbao and Gexto over the weekends, but now I am very enxious to go see some other places. Some weekend trips I want to take would be Portugal, southern Spain, Madrid, and Bordeaux. I had my first test on Friday, I hope it went well! I stayed in the whole week studying but it has been hard to have some things stick for Spanish. I still have my days where I can understand very little and other days where I can understand ... read more

EEK! Sorry I am a day late! I plan on updating my blog every Sunday, but I might not be on top of it all the time! Ooops :/ Week three in Gexto! Wow, needless to say it is incredible! Although my honeymoon stage is starting to wear off and I am beginning to get a little homesick, it's that whole being halfway across the world that is starting to make me miss home a little. School is going well so far however 8:45 AM classes Monday through Friday is a pain; I have my first test this Friday, yikes. Right now I am taking a study break for my homework which has increased in the past week. This past Friday we had an excursion with USAC that was all about traditional Basque sports. It was ... read more

Wow, crazy to say that I've already been here for a week! So far we have had one day that it wasn't rainy all day, which was today. The weather has been so crazy! Even the locals say so much rain is unusual. Anyway, enough about the weather. I have met some awesome people here! All USAC participants so far, but I am hoping to make friends with some locals...if I can get my Spanish better haha. Classes started on Wednesday and I am very excited to continue them, I have a great Spanish professor and a CRAZY professor for my Consumer Behavior class; my friend Rupert describes him has having a demon inside of him! Basically all of the USAC staff is great, on Friday they took us out to coffee after class and talked ... read more

Let's just say I am exhausted! I began my journey at 4:30 AM Washington time. My flight from SEA-TAC didn't leave until 7:35 but it is suggested that you get there apparently three hours beforehand! Crazy, right? Anyway, from Seattle to Dallas I had an isle seat (which I despise), but was able to sleep most of the way, seeing that I was operating off of one hour of sleep! The five hour layover in Dallas was not to bad, I got in some reading and stretched my legs a bit. Let me just say, the Dallas/Fort Worth airport is WEIRD. By far the strangest airport I have been to. From Dallas to Madrid was a long flight, fortunately it was an overnight flight so most everyone on the plane was sleeping. The guy I sat ... read more

Our weekend in Bilbao was a bit of a damp squib! That's for the next blog though!! For now, we'd like to tell you about our sunny day on the Basque coast in Getxo, just 20 minutes outside of Bilbao on the Metro. In our hotel we had picked up a touristy card which told us about an old harbour in Getxo. There wasn't a lot more information but we thought we would go out and have a look, especially as the rainclouds had parted and let the sun out to play. It was also an excuse to see what the Bilbao Metro was like. We had breakfast near the large Moyua roundabout and then ventured down the escalator into the underground world of public transport. To our horror there was no station called Getxo! We ... read more

We headed out of Bilbao past the Euskalduna Congress and Music Hall across the river on our left. Lorna's friend (and our guide for the day!) Nerea explained that the Music Hall was built on a site that once housed a shipping construction company, one of the symbols of the industrial city that Bilbao was from the end of the 19th century onwards. The left bank of the river was traditionally the industrial part of Bilbao, whereas the right side was the wealthier area with stately mansions built by the upper middle classes. Our first stop was the Puente Bizkaia (Vizcaya Bridge), the world's oldest transporter bridge and a UNESCO World Heritage site. It's known locally as the "hanging bridge" and was built to link the Las Arenas district of Getxo with Portugalete on the opposite ... read more
