Myself and one roommate decided to do a little south of Spain exploring and I had heard so many things from others about the beauty and the fun they had there, so we went for 5 days! Málaga is directly south of San-Sebastián on the opposite coast, hahah! We took the bus to Bilbao ( about an hour ) and then took a crazy short 1 hour flight. When we arrived, I was in love!!! I think the thing I loved the most about the city was the streets. We have cobble stone streets in the Basque Country, but down in the south I was mesmerized by how unique each and every street was with different stones, and designs. I absolutely loved that. I also loved the Ferris Wheel, not quite the London eye, but it ... read more

With the goal of checking out Ronda and Córdoba, I bought a cheap flight to Málaga (from Santiago de Compostela) for the end of February. Originally I hadn't planned to spend a lot of time in Málaga itself, but after doing some research, it made the most sense to stay there from Saturday night through Monday morning of Carnival weekend (in 2017, the last weekend of February), before heading to Ronda. I lucked out with it being Carnival, because there was a bit more to see as a lone traveler. It was also cool to contrast (the part I caught of) Carnival in Málaga with Carnival in Ourense (that´d I’d experienced last year). Saturday night, there weren't nearly as many people dressed up as I expected, maybe 1 out of 4 or 5 people. It may ... read more

San Sebastian (Basque Region) It takes just 50mins on the motorway from Bayonne (France) to get to San Sebastian (Spain). There are not much immigration formalities (benefit of being in the EU – for the time being at least!), though random spot checks are carried out by the police at a Toll Terminal on some cars, but it’s all low key & good humoured. On arriving in San Sebastian, we park near the sea front close to our hostel as its siesta time – so free parking. We unload the bags we need, check in at Perdota (where we stayed last year) and go to the Mussels’ place, next door for lunch – which is a wonderful experience as usual. Then it’s off to the free parking area 2 miles walk away which took some finding ... read more

Lui qui reste toujours si calme ... read more

Our last 2 days in Málaga was marked by the Feria de Málaga – a weeklong festival held every August to celebrate the city’s Reconquista from the Moors in 1487. Our accommodation was in the thick of it and we had to maneuver our way around the partying crowd who had gathered to watch bands play on the balconies. Actually it was a very good location with an inner Arab inspired courtyard which shut off the noisy crowds outside. We spent much if the day walking around getting a feel for the place and the locals partying on the streets with impromptu Sevillianas style Flamenco dancing. We tried the local Cartojal wine which everyone was drinking. We later found out it was sherry hence the sweetness. However it was nice to sit in our courtyard away ... read more

Don't poke a crocodile with a stick, no matter how big your stick is. That is the most important thing I have learned today. The day started like it normally does for us in Spain, which meant getting lost for an hour and a half before we found what we were looking for. Today the elusive intended destination was the Picasso Museum in Malaga. Now I'm not into Picasso but had to learn a bit about him at college and could at least appreciate that he knew how to draw before going all nuts and developed his own 'style'. Thus I presumed that I would come out of this pleasantly surprised, but no. It really was mostly childlike crap that made no sense whatsoever and was not visually pleasing to me. If art has an intended ... read more

Who bet on me getting ill on day 6 or 7? Well you share the prize as I have no idea what time I was up in the night being sick. Welll done you! Today I was allowed to lie in until virtually the evening as the alarm didn't go off until 8.25am. I wasn't sure what to do at this late hour so I turned over and figured I'd wake up the next day. Or I got up and we headed out in the direction of the Picasso Museum in Malaga with the plan to arrive as it opened at 10am. Plans of finding places down here usually go awry and this morning was no exception. We have the address, we have a map, we have a satnav.....and still we end up 14 bloody miles ... read more

Finally, I made it to the playa :) I strongly considered going to Granada, but I was exhausted from the past three days to properly plan it out, and really what is a vacation if you can't rest a little? I spent the day in lovely Málaga where the people have proven to be the sweetest and kindest I have encountered. I visited el Castillo de Gibralfaro, la Alcazaba de Málaga, and Pablo Picasso's birth home. Me not getting to see Alhambra only means that I must come back for another indulged trip to Spain. I'm thinking of spending a few days in Madrid and Granada next time? Maybe even visit my dear friend in Zaragosa as well. As I have learned, Spain is much too big and beautiful to try to squeeze in a few ... read more

Doktor Martin przez całe zawodowe życie oszczędzał pieniądze by móc zrealizować swoje marzenie. W 1987 roku rozpoczął budowę na pięknie położonej własnej działce budowlanej Przy pomocy dwóch murarzy J. Blanco i D. Nunez i w oparciu o swoją ogromną wiedzę, zapał i środki finansowe opowiedział historię Kolumba. Budowla jest połączeniem najpiękniejszych architektonicznych stylów – romańskiego, gotyckiego, muzułmańskiego i bizantyjskiego. Jego elementy nie sa przypadkowe. Znajdziemy tutaj fontannę wężową, fontannę zalotów (jako pamiatka spotkania Króla Ferdynanda i Izabeli), zamek Izabelli, dom Aragona, ... read more

Do Mijas dojechalysmy od strony Manilvy, gdzie spedzilysmy ostatnia noc. Dojazd byl prosty, droga wiodla wzdluz morza, wszedzie piekne widoki. Z jednej strony morze a z drugiej tereny gorzyste, no moze raczej pagorkowate. Mijas lezy na wysokosci 428 mnpm. Droga wila sie w gore. Slonko swiecilo i odbijalo sie od bialych domkow wioski Mijas niemalze oslepiajac nas swoim blaskiem. Domy w Andaluzji od wiekow maluje sie bialym wapnem by uchronic sie przed goracym sloncem. Udalo nam sie znalezc parking za 1€ za dzien i to tuz przed samym centrum miasta. To byla bardzo dobra cena gdyz parkingi w Andaluzji sa chyba drozsze niz w Londynie! Czas nas gonil wiec szybko poszlysmy w strone centrum. Chcialysmy przede wszystkim zobaczyc slynne osiolkowe taksowki tzw Burro Taxi. Nie udalo nam sie zobaczyc osiolkow tak od razu. Nie wiedzialysmy czy ... read more
