Two weeks here now and we have settled into our little apartment which is just a 15 minute walk to the heart of Malaga. We are thoroughly enjoying experiencing the Spanish way of life and the many attractions of this very interesting city. It is in an ideal location to make side trips to other nearby cities by bus or train....Granada, Ronda, Cordoba, Seville, Cadiz and Morocco are all on our to do list. We are really fortunate to have connected with my old rugby mate Stephen and his wife Christine. They hosted us at their place in nearby Coin and have already taken us on a couple of adventures with the promise of more to come. Here are some highlights of the past 2 weeks.... read more

To escape the miseries of winter at Sauble Beach this year we decided on the south of Spain in January and February then Italy in March. We did a combination of self booking (Air bnb) and had a knowledgeable agent help us with trains and tours in Italy. The first week was spent in Madrid with a day trip to Toledo; now we are in Malaga in a cosy apartment until the end of February. Here is the first installment of our latest adventure.... read more

We were back in our regular Taberna De Cervantes for another selection of tapas on Saturday evening. After our lunch, we opted to have just a few dishes. We had been much later the previous evening and the place was crowded. Tonight, we had just beaten the rush. An hour later, the place was packed. The surrounding areas had also visibly filled up since we started dining, so we just wandered aimlessly in the adjacent streets considering our next plan. The Plaza de la Merced is a large square at the top of town. The top side is lined with bars. The majority were buzzing. We settled for one selling the local Victoria Beer. Since 1928. In a world of fizzy lager dominated by San Miguel and the Seville based Cruz Campo, Victoria is a much ... read more

I came home with tales of the latest holiday plans of the colleagues at work. Canary Islands. Southern Spain. East Midlands Airport flights naturally. "Can we go somewhere normal?", the Other Half politely inquired. I scanned the potential fixture list, before passing comment. We could have a long weekend in Malaga, I tentatively suggested after eyeing up the Malaga CF clash with Deportivo La Coruna. The plan was readily agreed and so I find myself on the tarmac at Castle Donnington studying with amazement as to how much the grey pound generation can conceivably try to cram on a plane as hand luggage. Michael O'Leary et al have spent years trying to redefine the parameters of air travel, but he has made no impact on this lot who have spent the last 40 years taking everything ... read more

Saturday November 19th and Sunday November 20th... Malaga After leaving Gibraltar we drove to Malaga situated on the Costa del Sol...Sun Coast. The hills and coast line along the way were filled with what looked like condos and resorts. The Barcelo Malaga was a modern hotel adjacent to the new mall/rail station complex and located near the bus terminal which made for serious convenience. (In the hotel there was a metal slide from the first floor down to the mezzanine bar.) The mall was filled with restaurants and we each picked something different for dinner take out...Taco Bell for me, Pizza Hut for Dawn and Sushi for the Temples. On Sunday we took a short taxi ride to Plaza Marina to walk about the stunning old town, an area with everything from cafes to ruins to ... read more

Andalusien 6. – 16.

Zoe This morning I woke up and got ready for Córdoba. Córdoba is the capital of Andalusia. The drive was 2 hours from our house. When we arrived we went to The Mosque-Cathedral of Córdoba. It's called the Mezquita. The building was a mix of different religions and styles. It was very hot. So after our tour we needed water and lunch. We had calamari and eggplant. Then we drove home. Bella and I had a swim in the pool. Then dad went to collect Michael from the airport. Michael is bella's godfather. Josia, Kym, Bella and I walked down to the festival in Cartama. The festival was really good. There was a street parade of the ancient story of Belle and Jarife. There were stalls everywhere though the streets. Some stalls had food, candles, presents, ... read more

Day 16 Exploring Malaga I Woke up and played Monopoly with Zoe and Josia which was really fun. I lost and Josia had to buy one of my property's cause I couldn't afford it . Me, Zoe and Dad had a swim in the pool and played duck in the middle. If you don't know that is, it is a game where someone is stuck in the middle of the pool with a rubber duck. We Drove into Malaga to find a market the gardener told us about. It was a really smelly seafood market. So we had lunch at the seafood market. We found a park, port and ice cream. When we came home from the seafood market we found in the chicken coop one beautiful and clean egg! We went for another really nice swim! ... read more

Zoe This morning I woke up and went to see if Josia was awake and he was. We went outside and chatted and then Bella woke up so we thought we would play cards. We played cards and I won ?. We also had breakfast during the game. When dad woke up we played monopoly. It was Josia and I on a team vs dad and Bella. It was raining but we still jumped in the pool for a bit. After that we went to an old town called Antequera. We parked in the car park and went up to the top level. The top level was a viewing point. It had a great ? view of churches. Then we walked up a hill to a fort. We got audio guides. Mum, Bella, Josia and I ... read more

Zoe Malaga?! This morning we had to get up early to catch a flight. Where to? You say, well we are going to Malaga. It takes 1:50 hours, to fly from the North of Spain to the South of Spain. When we arrived we had to catch a van to the car rental place. When we were waiting in line for the van the man told us that there was only one more seat in the van. So dad had to catch the van without us. But it only took 2 minutes for the next van to come. The ride was only 10 minutes from the airport. Then we got our rental car. It was exciting because Dad had to drive on the other side of the road. Plus our house is on the side of ... read more
