Hi ya, So we did it the long way round but we made it to Slvoenia at last. We're still on the Adriatic coast at a small place called Ankaran about a 5 minute walk from the Italian border (but its still Slovenia). Again we didn't think about it being a different currency but they still accept Euro's anyway. Its a scorcher again here apart from a thunder storm one lunch time that we thought was going to be rubbish until the heavens opened and we got soaked, it was lovely and refreshing!!! I'm afraid most time is spent sun bathing as its just too hot to do anything else. The camp site is nice enough to stay here though and its dirt cheap for everything. There's only a small coast line in Slovenia but we ... read more

Geo: 45.4953, 13.5965When we arrived back in Piran we went for a walk up to the top of the town for a view of Piran. The view was good. We decided to walk to the next beach town for some dinner. We walked along the boardwalk, past the nudist beach and 20 minutes arrived. All we could find was bars and an expensive restaurant. So we walked all the way back to Piran and went to a pizzeria for pizza! Yum, yum, this is the start of many pizzas. Had an early night, as we have an early start tomorrow morning.... read more

Geo: 45.4953, 13.5965Maeve and I checked out and began walking to the train station. I asked a taxi how much and he said 1200 Tollars!! That is three times as much as I paid a few days ago! I laughed and told him that and we walked away. Once again I fell asleep on the train. Two and a half hours we arrived at Koper and were bombarded with taxi drivers willing to drive us for 'bus price'. We didn't know if they were genuine or not, so we waited for the bus. It was a 20 minute scenic coastal drive to Piran. Piran is a cute little seaside town that has not being invaded by developers and there are no huge hotels or resorts. Walked to the town square were we were being met by ... read more

Anyone want to buy a boat for 1,000,000 euros? The owners of the company I am visiting here in Slovenia are into sailing and boats, and they invited me to go to the Slovenian seaside with them to this expo. The show was set in Portoroze (the Slovene Monte Carlo as they say) ......Lots of boats...... anyway it was a beautiful day and it was really nice to get out of Ljubljana. The Slovene / Croatian seaside are so nice, architecture is left over from the days of the venetian empire, so each town is like a little piece of Italy. It reminded me of my summer in Venice and being out on the water. After the expo we drove to Piran (Pirano) near by which is a small town with an amazing central circular piazza ... read more

Again, getting to the Adriatic seemed easy enough - we bought a ticket from one city to another, on a direct train. But somehow, in a mix of Slovenian and Italian, we were directed off the train, put on a bus, and driven around the countryside. I went to the driver to try to make sure we were still going to Koper, but suddenly the English, so ubiquitous in Ljubljana, was gone. Lindsay, who had previously loved the sound and happy cadence of Slovenian (after French and German, "It's phonetic! It's like Spanish!"), could only comment after trying to save my seat on the bus that, "It doesn't sound like Spanish anymore..." and it didn't, it sounded like the deepest darkest indecipherable Russian. We were confused but somewhat reassured when the train man got on the ... read more
