Hey there! So... we are now in Budapest... and need to update you all on our travels through Velicko Tarnovo (Blugaria) and into/through Transylvania (Romania). Our new plan with blogs is to write far less, and post more pics, with longer captions. It may not work out that way this time though--we have been in some small towns with minimal internet access. Velicko was great. Very pretty (although not many great pics to be honest). Quiet chillout uni town. Got lost trying to find the hostel when we first arrived which was particularly annoying cos Velicko is VERY hilly. Had a great meal at the fanciest restaurant in town for only about 20 USD total. Including a pretty decent bottle of dark red plonk. Mavrud... if you're into wine and varietals... it is only grown ... read more

... Life is the road and I wanna keep going Love is a river and I wanna keep flowing, Life is a road now and forever.. a wonderful journey! Veni, vidi, vici.. actually Sighisoara conqured me!... nothing I could write can describe the feeling I had while I was staying there... First thing I noticed when I arrived there was the train station...not very clean and first impression always counts for foreigners. Coming from Bucharest Im very used to crazy taxi drivers who try to overcharge the clients but I was amazed to meet really polite and honest people. It was less than 1 Euro from train station to city center, I gave him 2 Euro and he said: "miss thats too much, I cant accept it"... THAT MUST HAVE BEEN A KODAK MOMENT.... very soon ... read more

Woke up around 7am and we were somewhere in Romania. The old lady in my compartment was on her way to Bucharest to visit her mother. She was German and spoke a little English, plus lots of Romanian and Italian. We managed to communicate though and she told me a few stories about Romania, and taught me a few Romanian words (boo-nah-dee-ma-naat-za = “good morning”, boo-nah-zee-wah = “good afternoon”, boo-nah-zeh-rah = “good evening”). All of a sudden the door to the compartment ripped open and instead of seeing a cop or soldier or someone wanting to mug us, there was a strange looking girl about 8 years old standing there in a t-shirt and jeans cut off at her knees. She started saying something that I couldn’t understand and pulled up the legs of her jeans. ... read more

well well well...what a surprise, here i am again in romania without an updated-enough system to be able to plug in my camera and upload pictures. this time we're gonna pretend i'm still in sighisoara.... the train ride to sighisoara was uneventful besides meeting a really nice romanian girl with excellent english skills. her dad works in chicago and she aspires to study medicine in chi-town, so the three of us exchanged e-mails. it would be cool to show a romanian around town...not that i'll be home anytime soon. pretty much as we stepped off of our train we were met by this guy trying to get us to stay at this hostel. it just so happened to be the one we had reservations at so he showed us where it was, 50 meters to the ... read more

We pulled into Sighisoara under a grey, foggy sky and you guessed it, in the rain. We were approached on the platform by Andrej, a Romanian hostel worker, who took us to Nathan's hostel which was only a short walk from the station. Apart from us, there were only 3 other people staying at the hostel so it was pretty quiet. We went to a bank and took some money out. The Romanian Lei is going through a transistion period to try and avoid inflation and as a result, they are using what is basically two currencies. Not only is this confusing but the fact that in the old currency, 1GBP is 50,000 Lei means that we are stuggling to work out exactly what we are spending. The numbers are just too bloody long!! Still, it ... read more

We've made it to Romania. This was one of the countries I was most looking forward to when I was planning to cycle this route. I had heard of great mountian chains, bears and dracula. It is so beautiful here and we are here in a heat wave, this part is not so good for cycling so we are rested up in Sighisoara, a beatuful UNESCO recognised medieval citadel and the bitrhplace of Dracula, aka Vlad the Impaler. We finally managed to leave L'viv after struggling to fit the new local tyre I had bought there. The road out of town was hot and the camp that night in a field was plagued with mosquitoes from hell . The Ukrainian Steppe is infested with the largest mosquitoes I have ever seen! We now understand why the ... read more

Acordamos e fechamos a conta no albergue. Quando nos despedíamos dos amigos ingleses, Ed me pergunta “Is this yours?”, mostrando minha carteira. Salvou a pátria.
