AHHHHHH!!!! LAGOS Lets just say...Laura and I love, love, love, lovvvvvveeeeeeee Lagos!!!!!!!!! We are about ready to drop anchor here for the rest of our trip. To give you an example of why I love Lagos so much.....Laura and I decided to go on a boat ride around some grottos. When we got back that guy the guy that booked our boat ride offered us his own homemade red wine, bread and cheese. And it may sound weird in writing about a stranger offering us wine and all but it was in a public area and I donºt think he did it for any other reason but kindness and possible because he had spent some time in New York and mentioned how much he liked New Yorkers. We also stayed in a cute little pension ... read more

We arrived to a lovely day in Faro, southern Portugal - the sunshine was a welcome change to the smoggy london weather! We elected to take a public bus to our apartment in Albufiera (about 15miles from Faro airport), little did we know that we would spend the next 4+ hours (!) tiki-touring around the general area! It was quite an ordeal, considering we just wanted to get to our hotel complex and relax - On the up-side we did see a lot of the area around the Portugese section of the Algarve coast - whether we liked it or not! We finally arrived at the central bus station in Albufiera and caught a cab to our hotel - reflecting all the while that we probably could have WALKED from the airport in a similar ... read more

So, iºm in lagos, portugal...sitting at a bar....pints only 2.50 euros....with free internet...canºt beat it!!!! The trek from dublin to lagos was a long one, but well worth it. We couldnºt find a hostel in dublin our last night (stupid us, we didn´t plan ahead for a friday night in ireland), so we slept in the airport instead...flew to porto, portugal at 925am, and arrived somewhere around noon. We took the metro from the airport to the train station for only 1.85 euros...not bad. We then made a reservation for the train, 4 euros each leg of the trip (portugal requires reserverations for every train trip, which sort of sucks....considering we paid 985 USD for a 2 month train pass). We headed from porto to lisboa....only to make another reservation to tunes....where we changed trains ... read more

Two weekends ago (man, we're behind on this blog!) my parents came to visit us in Portugal - my mom for the second time and my dad for the first. They had been on a hiking trip in Tuscany the previous week (they lead very rough lives) and were able to arrange their flights so they came through Lisbon on the way home. Jason and I rented a car in Coimbra and met my parents at the airport in Lisbon on Saturday. We drove south from the airport to the Algarve and stayed in Lagos again, this time at a resort within walking distance of downtown. We had a two bedroom apartment that looked over the pool and had a huge balcony, where we spent all of the time that we were "home." On Sunday ... read more

Two weeks ago, my parents, my brother, and my Grandpa and his wife Loretta came to visit. We covered a lot of ground in Portugal during their week here. Lindsay and I picked everyone up at the airport in a big “Transporter” 9-person Volkswagen Van, so we had plenty of room for the 7 of us plus luggage and lots of car snacks. We were happy everyone made it to Portugal on time despite all of the storms and short flight connections they had in the States. We took the 2.5 hour drive down to Lagos, in the Algarve, and stayed at the Vila Branca apartments. We found ice cream, walked around town and the beach in Lagos, and had dinner at a nice steak restaurant. The next day (Sunday), we had pastries and coffee ... read more

Hello dearies! Ok, so there was an excuse for my late blogging coming back from Morocco, but I cannot seem to find a good excuse as to why I have not posted in over 2 months… ummm, sorry! I am currently in Portugal on a farm near the small town called Carapateria which is in the South Western tip. Alison and I made it safely last night despite both of us being severely directionally challenged. The Small farm is called Cunca, so yall should try and look it up on the internet at some point because I think they have a web site. We came prepared with a tent, but it turns out they have a room for us, which was great because it rained last night… and this morning… and this afternoon! The day ... read more

So back to the story eh? I arrive at noon at Faro airport down on the south coast. Looks like Florida, but with roundabouts and french cars. I surprise Helenee from behind with Bom Dia, do the hug thing and go find Heleneê´s roommate, Stacia, who is borrowing a car to come get me. So how do they decide to introduce me to Portugal? SHOPPING! Brilliant. We end up at Faro Shopping Center after getting decidely lost. They go from store to store buying nothing while I sit under a palm tree hiding from the sun as much as possible as my SPF 50 sunblock should be used in moderation. Afterwards, Stacia as she said wanted to stop by her boyfriend´s place even though I felt it was quite obvious we were already going to be ... read more

Where do I begin, and where does it end! So few questions, so many answers. I concluded my stay in Dingle after all, and what a week. The blessed weather had reached Ireland, with clear skies, perfect temperatures...I ended up spending a week in the region afterwards hiking and doing whatnot. But it had to end, and Kerry county finally receded as I sat on the train to Dublin in a stupor that I was heading back to that city after being in Dingle Peninsula for such a time. I reached Dublin and headed southbound on another train to a place called Greystones where I was to meet Jenny, whose family was our neighbors some time back. Before I got out of the train station I noticed someone standing outside with a bike with searching eyes. ... read more

Untitled Well, this post is about a week and half later than I had hoped, but here it is. There have been some changes over here and the one that most of you have probably already heard about it that I have changed my look. The golden locks are gone!! We (Jenna, Kristi, Nina and I) decided to leave Spain during Semana Santa (Holy Week) and travel to Portugal. The southern coast or Algarve is mostly known for it beaches and surfing. I cut my hair the night before we left. It wasn't easy but it was definitely time for a change! Anyways, we left on Friday March 30 and arrived in Faro, where we rented a car and headed to our first stop of the week, Lagos. We stayed in a great hostel in Lagos, ... read more
