Phew...hopefully I don't collapse from the heat in this internet cafe before finishing this entry... Today's our last full day Krakow, but I'll get to that after a recap of the past few days...As a side note, my last entry was actually entered the day after I wrote it because the site was down. Tuesday we were up and ready at 8 for Marian, Kasia's pseudo-uncle to drive us to Czestochowa. Sleeping most of the way there, we got there in about two hours, and it was nothing like i expected. I suppose I thought it would be like a tiny church on a hill, but instead it was this massive complex of intricate chapels and a basilica in the middle of a good-sized town. Being perfectly honest, the interior of the chapels, etc. were more ... read more

So on the 20th of June, my uncle Marian took Jeff and I to Czestochowa, where the black Madonna is. I'm not going to lie, we were a little scared to go with him because he doesn't really have the most easily-understandable way of speaking Polish. Nonetheless, we agreed that we'd go with him in his car, and it actually paid off. He knew exactly where to go, from the church itself, to the chapel, the church tower, and the treasury. Jeff and I both agreed that the treasury they had here was a lot better than the one at Wawel. The church itself was beautiful--probably the prettiest church I've ever seen. However, the actual black Madonna is covered by some piece of engraved gold, so you can't actually see it at all. I must say, ... read more

Well well well, it seems I've finally made it to an internet cafe. Not gonna lie, we've been on the go non-stop, so it's good to finally sit down and rest. We just finished up a delicious meal sitting outside in rynek glowny, Krakow's main medieval square - the biggest of its kind in Europe! Delicious grilled pork with mushrooms, peppers, and plums with chrzan, salad, and fries on the side. Helped that down with some piwo w sokiem, a cherry/raspberry flavored beer. So I'm still not totally convinced I'm in Poland, considering how easy it is to walk around a Polish neighborhood, grocery, or restaurant back home, but its sinking in more and more... Upon arrival, we were picked up by Basia and her husband Ignac. Basia is Kasia's grandma's best friend's daughter, and its ... read more

So I'm sitting in an internet cafe in Krakow right now and Jeff and I just finished dinner a little while ago. I even drank a beer, or most of it anyway!! It was piwo z sokiem, or flavored beer, and I had lemon lime. After about four sips, I already felt tipsy and I had to pee like none other, but I tredged on and Jeff only had to drink about the last fifth of it. As far as the past few days, they've been really hectic and tiring, and we haven't got up past 7 in the morning. On the 16th we got here at about 2 and after being picked up by Basia and her husband, they dropped us off at our apartment, which is really Baba's friend's apartment. We were super tired, ... read more
