The three of us woke up from a night full of sleep. Shelley was the first to get ready and headed down to the lobby for breakfast. Kristine and I tagged along not too long afterwards.
Breakfast was AWESOME!! I have to say, for the both of us, that this was the BEST breakfast we’ve ever had in ANY hotel we’ve ever stayed in thus far. There were eggs, loafs of fresh baked bread we had to cut to size ourselves, yoghurt of various kinds, fruit, cheeses, smoked salmon, turkey sausages with onions, meatballs, mushrooms with spinach, fresh cut and fried potatoes, jams, cereals, juices….I can’t even remember how much variety they had. Cold cuts, miniature smoothies…I should capture this on a video tomorrow. We’re already looking forward to breakfast tomorrow.
After breakfast we walked about Bergen to see the side streets and other buildings around where we were staying. We captured many photos of the various buildings and streets here. They’re simply beautiful. Very old. Due to the month of June being Pride Month, there are many Pride flags flying in, around, and on top of the buildings. The majority of the streets are cobblestone, except for the
main streets full of traffic. This adds to the feel of the city in general.
We walked around most of the morning, ducking into a tobacco shop where I purchased a small box of cigarillos and a coffee. Turns out that that store led into a shopping mall. It was so cool. It was soon time to get ready for our fjord cruise, so we headed back to our hotel to change and freshen up our water supply. I bought some lefse and Qvick Lunsj chocolate bars for our day.
We ventured down to the harbour (10 min walk from our hotel) and waiting to board our vessel. The sailing at two o’clock had so many bookings they laid on two boats. We opted to wait for the second sailing, which left 5 mins after the lead boat, which was full to capacity. Good choice.
Leaving the Bergen Harbour, we set out with
Rødne to cruise up to Mostraumen. It was so scenic…simply beautiful. Shelley was so overcome by the beauty of the moment we squeezed between two high cliffs in the fjord it brought tears to her eyes. She was able to capture the moment with
her iPhone getting it all on video. Birds flew up from the water as the ship slipped past the high expanse of rock that reached up to the sky.
The fjord cruise was about 3-1/2 hrs in time. Everyone was pretty much below decks on the way back to relax and have a snooze. I don’t think we were the only ones out walking around for the last number of days!
Coming alongside the pier, we disembarked and walked over through the fish market. Kristine and I bought some ‘fiskkakker’ (fish cakes) made from cod to bring to our supper table at the hotel. They reminded me of Farmor so much.
Supper was pretty good. Our meals are included in the cost of our hotel stay. Mainly stew with cauliflower rice tonight. Other breads and fixings on the side rounded things out. We also bought some red wine to with our dinner.
After supper, I packed up a pipe and we went out to a bench on Bryggen where I could enjoy it. Shelley and Kristine joined me on the bench and we people watched for an hour or so. After this, Kristine headed back up
to the room for a bath and Shelley and I enjoyed a glass of wine in the hotel lobby. We chose to sit in a four seat area next to the windows looking out onto the street. When we were done, two other groups of people were quite interested in moving to where we were sitting and rushed in when we left. That was amusing to see.
It was then time to head back upstairs to organize our suitcases and prepare to leave tomorrow. We checked the weather for Flåm tomorrow and set those things aside, leaving our clothing for tomorrow out.
