Woke this morning around 8am and sat on the swing in the sun. I think I have to get up pretty early here to catch the sun coming up over the mountains. None the less it was a beautiful day to sit and drink my coffee while the horses played below me. Had grilled sandwich for breakfast then showered and dressed for the day.
Gry and I ran into Hønefoss to do a bit of shopping. Hønefoss is a market place with long traditions where the Sentrumsbutikkene, the shops and restaurants are centrally located around the market Søndret. This looked a bit different from when we went before as people gathered in the market to visit at the little cafés and for the children to play on the play ground that sat in the midst of it all. It was quite a warm and happy feeling like something from a movie. Gry and I looked in some shops and purchased a gift for her friend, Vigdis, that we would later go visit for her 48th birthday.
We sat at one of the cafes and had a traditional Norwegian bun called Skolebrød made with a bun like pastry, custard and
icing with grated coconut. It was very sweet but very tasty. I am not really sure why my clothes are getting tight on me. :s
Once back at the cottage and having had my Norwegian language lesson for the day, we got ready to attend the birthday party. All eleven of us got in two cars and headed out. Only for about five minutes down the road.
It amazed me that this family was actually having all if us there for dinner! It was a lovely home with an incredible view as you can see from the photos. Very sweet couple, Petter and Vigdis with a daughter of only nine months older then Andreas so they played well. Andy tells me that Petter was actually the best man at his wedding with Lena so they have known one another for quite a long time.
Dinner was buffet style consisting of moose, lamb, spicy sausage, potatoes, salad and hamburgers. Having not tried moose before I opted for that. It was actually quite tasty. Some sat outside while others ate in at the dining room table.
Desert was prepared while the children watched patiently. So many delightful things
from pancakes with sour cream and cloud berries to chocolate cake with whipped cream icing to pavlova, a crispy meringue with whipped cream and strawberries on top. Again I don't know why my clothes are getting tighter although I am suspecting it has something to do with Gry's washing machine.
We sang happy birthday in a number of languages ...... It reminded me of the Van Trapp family from The sound of Music....Andy's Van Trapp lol We then dug into the sweets. Mmmmmmm
We laughed at the pictures and stories Gry and I told of our mishaps in Roma. Vigdis said Andy and I were very much alike in our behaviour. This is funny given how different our lives were growing up. Guess "it's in the genes" as Andy says.
We said our good byes, ha det bra, and headed out in the rain.
Once back, we all retreated to our own space for rest. I made a few calls and blogged while occasionally chatting and laughing with Thea through the walls. I am quite enjoying her company. We have a lot of laughs and I hope she comes to visit Canada when she has completed
her chef schooling.
God Natt
