Woke this morning to beautiful sunshine and horses grazing outside my window, quite literally, since Andy released one of the horses to graze when he left this morning at 6am to pick up Thea, Oscar and Edwin. I walked up to the house and was greet by Gry and a hare. It came hopping up right between me and the dog then hopped away. Apparently it was a baby hare.
Gry tells me we have 30 min to get ready as Andy was going to be home with the other kids and we were going to the lake. Beep beep beep....as they arrive the kids gather to welcome one another then the packing begins...eleven people means 11 towels, 11 drinks, 11 snacks and all the other provisions necessary for tubing and skiing multiplied by 11. While packing up the car, one of the horses came up to graze on the little bit of grass closest to the cottage. It was quite comical to me but clearly a natural occurrence for others as no one else even batted an eyelash.
The scenery at the lake is breath taking and it is so quiet. We arrived and the lady that owns
the property, Wenche, was on the dock enjoying a peaceful tanning session but was invaded by 9 children, 3 adults and a dog. She quickly pulled up her bathing suit top and waved. Boy did her morning change in a hurry!
Everyone helped to unpack, we got the boat in the water and tubing commenced! While people took turns tubing, others ate open faced sandwiches, made of salami and cheese spread washing them down with Pepsi on the cement dock. Want a glorious day ....reminds me of the joke, " hey lady, are these all your kids or are you on a picnic?" She replies "Yes, these are all my kids and this ain't no picnic". Actually I would be lying if I said I didn't love all the action and observing the interaction of everyone.
The kids loved being by the water and I enjoyed watching them. I discovered today that I am understanding a little of the Norwegian as they speak to one another. Mostly smaller phrases that have similar words as English ones.
I did try my had at water skiing today but with little success. Unfortunately, there wasn't enough horse power to get
my butt out of the water.
Once all the kids and Gava, the dog and Andy were sufficiently tired, we packed up the two vehicles and boat and headed back.
Once home we got busy cooking dinner. Wenche and her husband were going to join us at Snaret around 7:30. With Joan, that made enough people for a baseball game as well as many to cook for. Gry made delicious meatballs and pasta with a tomato gravy for dinner.
Andy had lit a fire just before dinner so just after dinner, while Gry was serving up a creamy dessert made with cloud berries, the kids were roasting marshmellows. At that time, Andy thought it would be a good idea to bring out the French horn. He "played" it then it was passed around the table. Gry was the only one that knew what to do. What great laughs we had as people tried to blow the horn.
Nancy finished her book today.....lol I should have brought her more!
Following the horn playing, we visited and tied up. We then hit the sac.
