So, we arrived in Pisa, Italy (no we did not see the leaning tower, to my dismay.... ok Pippa claims to have seen it from the plane window.... i don't believe it) on September 26th, took a train and a bus to Biassa... 10 minutes outside of the first of five villages that make up Cinque Terre. We found ourselves cold, wet, and hungry, sitting outside the hostel (it wasn't open, yet) tucked away in a remote mountain community... a bit of a shock and surprise after basking in the sun in Madrid for four days. Luckily, after 45 minutes we were let into warmth by a man we have dubbed Jean-Luc (Pippa has distressingly taken on the habit of nicknaming people ala Sawyer in Lost.... an inside joke for all those Losties out there... why a French name was given to an Italian man, I don't know.... ask Pippa - his name is actually Diego, an utter peach)
So, what Cinque Terre is famed for, for all of you out there who may be wondering what we're doing here to begin with, is the trek through all five fishing villages right on the Mediterranean coast. As the hike takes approximately five hours, we had to do it on the only complete day we had in Cinque Terre. As it turns out, that day we awoke to the rumblings of thunder and flashes of lightning.... but tralala...naturally, off we went. So, the first leg between the first two villages is named via dell'amore - lover's lane. Hand in hand we crossed under the threshold, marvelling at the romantic view, when the skies suddenly opened and pelted us with golf-ball sized hail. In defense, we cowered under our umbrellas, still soaking wet. (Please refer to photographic evidence). What this is supposed to symbolize in terms of our enduring friendship, we don't know ... but, tralala - off we went, soaking wet, even more determined to complete the hike. Despite this rocky beginning, the remainder of our hike actually turned out to be fabulous.... please refer to photographic evidence 😊

Ciao!
The pics say it all! So happy to see you guys are having fun. I have to admit, reading your blog does inspire a certain amount of envy. But then I remind myself that pretty soon it will be Exit Stage Left - beauty and romance and history; Enter Stage Right - chaos, crowds and chikungunya! :) Got your postcard today, can't believe it got here so quickly! A package I sent in May to my friend Rajni just reached its destination in India a few weeks ago! All's well here. We miss you lots!

Adventures!
So I'm thinking of starting up a new blog..."The Adventures of Jenn and Pippa's Old Jalopy." Kidding, of course, but me and BB certainly sound like one this morning as the front underside muffler pipe has finally rusted out and cracked. Luckily, all was welded in so nothing actually fell off, but we certainly will wake-y the neighbors until this weekend when Brian plays Mr. fix-it. (It's his favorite!) Keep smiling and we shall hope there are no more peltings for you!!! Must keep the Gods happy, girls!
